Se llamaba La violencia en Colombia
Que llevaba largo tiempo ya peligroso para ese país
Y quizá para América

Lo leí con mucha atención
En uno de sus pasajes
Trataba sobre la vida de un muchachito de 16 años o 17
Que fue apresado, lastimado, herido, y confesó
Algunas cosas, contó al sacerdote algunas cosas
Algunos detalles que estaban fijados
En ese libro escrito por Monseñor Muñoz

En el tomo primero
Decía, yo he sufrido mucho, señor
Pero uno de los dolores más grandes del alma, del alma
Ha sido cuando me ordenaron tirar mi tiple
Era un tocador de tiple, el instrumento típico
De las montañas colombianas
Cuando me ordenaron arrojar mi tiple al río

Pucha, que me dolió, caramba, que me dolió el alma
Ese pequeño acontecimiento para los demás, grande para mí
Algo así contaba ese chiquilín

Yo soy guitarrista
Toda mi vida fui nada más que eso
Un sencillo campesino argentino, tocador de guitarra

Eso me tocó de cerca, ese acontecimiento
Me tocó profundamente leerlo
Y compuse esta travesura que les voy a contar
Esto pasaba en el Tolima
Una de las montañas arboladas profundas de Colombia

Solo una vez he llorado, callado llanto de indio
Fue en la sierra del Tolima al tirar mi tiple al río
Nos íbamos monte adentro, era noche de peligro
Que nadie fume ni hable, era noche de peligro
Andábamos silenciosos, corazón estremecido
Cuando llegó la consigna como un puñal de dos filos

El que tenga tiple en mano, que arroje su tiple al río
Tal vez otro haya pasado aquello que yo he vivido
Ser hombre de causa firme y no temerle al peligro
Y cumplir con la consigna, arrojando el tiple al río

Sentí su queja en la noche al rodar por el abismo
Como pidiendo mi amparo con el último sonido
La noche creció dos veces, en el cerro y dentro mío
Y yo me fui monte adentro y el tiple cayó en el río

In the Tolima

There's a story I'd like to share, my love,
Leave as a memory, as a lesson,
For the hurried, restless people,
