One of the most amazing things to me about this project
There are 26 songs on it and you have writting credit on 25
Only because one is a Hank Junior cover
You are absolutely an amazing and prolific writer and I mean
And you write some really great songs so
How important is it for you to be known as a songwriter
As much as a performer, a singer?

It's definitely important to me
I do think I've been misunderstood in the past
Because I think maybe I didn't explain things maybe the way I should
There are artists in this business that don't write songs or don't write all their songs
And I think maybe in the past I may have come across as being you know, uh
Judgmental?

Yeah, and that's not the case at all, and I'd like to clear that up
There's talented songwriters I mean talented is the understatement of the century
For the talent and the blessed songwriters we have in this town
And if it weren't for singers that didn't write and artists that didn't write (yeah)
Those songwriters wouldn't have their opportunity to do
What it is that they're so, so, so, so good at

So I do care and I'm very very appreciative to the singers and artists in this business
Who understand that they're not writers not trying to be writers
That just want to give writing credit to where it's due

But I feel like where my strength is, where what it is about me that works
Is that I'd sing things that I write
So I write things that I'm able to sing (right)
But that I'd tell my story and then I write with those other talented people in town
And I'm able to come together with them and tell my story
And I'm able to have a hand in it
I guess that's what I'm trying to say

Well and I think that maybe people misinterpreted that
Just because it's not right for you
That you're not saying that it's wrong for other people to do it
It's just not the way that you choose to do it (exactly, exactly)
Yeah, I get it (yeah)
Totally get it

And you know
And like you said I think in the past it's been misunderstood
I never meant to come across that way
To me I'm honored to be able to have written the songs that I wrote
With these incredibly talented people (right)
That went on this record
And I'm extremely thankful that God blessed me with the ability
To have a hand in telling my story

Well and I'd just hoped that you know maybe especially through this album
That people begin to realize
I mean what an incredible and prolific writer you are
'Cause I think that's something that's been overlooked a bit
In the past maybe people didn't realized that you write everything that you sing
And when you really get down and digest the lyrics
And figure out how profound they are
And how well written these songs are and then to realize that you wrote them all
Hopefully you'll get more credit in that arena

c'est qu'il y a 26 chansons et que vous êtes crédité comme auteur sur 25 d'entre elles.

Vous êtes absolument un auteur incroyable et prolifique, je veux dire…
Et vous écrivez de très belles chansons, alors…
À quel point est-ce important pour vous d'être reconnu comme auteur-compositeur
autant que comme interprète, comme chanteur ?

C'est vraiment important pour moi.
Je pense que j'ai été mal compris par le passé,
parce que je n'ai peut-être pas expliqué les choses comme j'aurais dû.
Il y a des artistes dans ce métier qui n'écrivent pas de chansons ou qui n'écrivent pas toutes leurs chansons.
Et je pense que, par le passé, j'ai peut-être pu paraître, vous savez, euh…
Critique ?

Oui, et ce n'est pas du tout le cas, et j'aimerais clarifier cela.
Il y a des auteurs-compositeurs talentueux, je veux dire, talentueux est l'euphémisme du siècle,
pour le talent et la bénédiction des auteurs-compositeurs que nous avons dans cette ville.
Et s'il n'y avait pas de chanteurs qui n'écrivent pas et d'artistes qui n'écrivent pas (oui),
ces auteurs-compositeurs n'auraient pas l'opportunité de faire
ce pour quoi ils sont si, si, si, si bons.

Donc, je m'en soucie et je suis très, très reconnaissant envers les chanteurs et les artistes de ce métier
qui comprennent qu'ils ne sont pas des auteurs, qu'ils n'essaient pas d'être des auteurs,
et qui veulent simplement donner le crédit d'écriture à qui de droit.

Mais j'ai l'impression que ma force, ce qui fonctionne pour moi,
c'est que je chante des choses que j'écris.
Donc j'écris des choses que je suis capable de chanter (exact).
Mais je raconte mon histoire et puis j'écris avec ces autres personnes talentueuses de la ville,
et je suis capable de travailler avec eux et de raconter mon histoire.
Et je suis capable d'y participer.
Je suppose que c'est ce que j'essaie de dire.

Eh bien, et je pense que les gens ont peut-être mal interprété cela.
Ce n'est pas parce que ce n'est pas bon pour vous
que vous dites que c'est mal pour les autres de le faire.
Ce n'est tout simplement pas la façon dont vous choisissez de le faire (exactement, exactement).
Oui, je comprends (oui).
Je comprends parfaitement.

Et vous savez,
et comme vous l'avez dit, je pense que par le passé, cela a été mal compris.
Je n'ai jamais voulu donner cette impression.
Pour moi, c'est un honneur d'avoir pu écrire les chansons que j'ai écrites
avec ces personnes incroyablement talentueuses (exact)
qui ont participé à ce disque.
Et je suis extrêmement reconnaissant que Dieu m'ait donné la capacité
de participer à raconter mon histoire.

Eh bien, et j'espère que, vous savez, peut-être surtout grâce à cet album,
les gens commenceront à réaliser
à quel point vous êtes un auteur incroyable et prolifique.
Parce que je pense que c'est quelque chose qui a été un peu négligé.
Par le passé, les gens n'ont peut-être pas réalisé que vous écrivez tout ce que vous chantez.
Et quand vous vous penchez vraiment sur les paroles
et que vous comprenez à quel point elles sont profondes
et à quel point ces chansons sont bien écrites, puis que vous réalisez que vous les avez toutes écrites,
j'espère que vous recevrez plus de crédit dans ce domaine.
Parce que je pense que vous êtes un auteur incroyable.
