Ich möchte wohl, wenn′s möglich wär
Daß Gott bekäm, was ich bekam
Die Sorgen all, und all den Gram
Und daß ich Gott wär, so wie er
Dann ging es ihm, wie's mir geschah
Ich zahlt ihm was mir ward zurück
Wie immer nur dem Schlechten ja
Gewährt wird seiner Güter Glück
So hole er sich dort den Dank
Und nicht bei mir für seine Gaben
Mir lieh er keinen Heller blank
Die Seele nur - die kann er haben

And that I was God, just like him
Then he would know what happened to me
I would repay him what was given to me
Like it always happens to the bad
The good fortune of his favors
So let him get his thanks there
And not from me for his gifts
