(زبردست و با گنج و گسترده کام)
(به بالا به کردار آزاده سرو)
(به رخ چون بهار و به رفتن تذرو)
(چو آگه شد از کار دستان سام)
(ز کابل بیامد به هنگام بام)

چنین گفت با پهلوان جهان
پس پرده او یکی دختر است
که رویش ز خورشید نیکوتر است

ز سر تا به پایش به کردار عاج
به رخ چون بهشت و به بالای ساج
دو چشمش به سان دو نرگس به باغ
مژه تیرگی برده از پر زاغ
بهشتیست سرتاسر آراسته
پر آرایش و رامش و خواسته

برآورد مر زال را دل به جوش
چنان شد کز او رفت آرام و هوش
دل زال یکباره دیوانه گشت
خرد دور شد، عشق فرزانه گشت
بهشتیست سرتاسر آراسته
پر آرایش و رامش و خواسته

(بپرسید سین دخت مهراب را)
(ز خوشاب بگشاد عنّاب را)
(چه مردیست آن پیرسر پور سام)
(همی تخت یاد آیدش یا کُنام)

چنین داد مهراب پاسخ بدوی
که ای سرو سیمین بر ماه روی

چو در جنگ باشد سرافشان بود

دلش گشت پر آتش از مهر زال

از او بر شده موج بر آسمان
پر از مهر زال است روشن دلم
به خواب اندر اندیشه زو نگسلم
دل و جان و هوشم پر از مهر اوست
شب و روزم اندیشه چهر اوست
نه قیصر بخواهم نه خاقان چین
نه از تاجداران ایران زمین

چو خورشید تابنده شد ناپدید
(در حجره بستند و گم شد کلید)
برآمد سیه چشم گلرخ به بام
(چو سرو سهی بر سرش ماه تام)
چو از دور دستان سام سوار
پدید آمد این دختر نامدار
(دو بیجاده بگشاد و آواز داد)
(که شاد آمدی) شاد آمدی ای جوانمرد راد

بیفکند بالا نزد هیچ دم
(ز دیدنش) رودابه می نارمید
(به دو دیده) در وی همی بنگرید
(دو بیجاده بگشاد و آواز داد)
(که شاد آمدی) شاد آمدی ای جوانمرد راد

(فروغ رخش را که جان برفروخت)
(در او بیش دید و دلش بیش سوخت)
چنین تا سپیده برآمد ز جای
تبیره برآمد ز پرده سرای
