Escaped Seven Times

I only have good memories of the Women's Prison.
That's the strangest thing about it.
The thing is,
The food there was better than at the psych ward.
It was much more relaxed than at Vogur (Psychiatric Hospital).
You're not rushed out.
You're not thrown out at 10 o'clock like at the Women's Shelter.
Such freedom not having to go outside for a whole week.
It wasn't a hardship being there, I mean.

Most of the girls who came into the prison
It's actually always the same women
Who are in and out of prison.
They were all my friends.
And very good friends of mine, you know.
They stood by me in everything.
When I was in a standoff with someone
Like at Hólmsheiði Prison
And had to start fighting or something
"Let's manipulate him!
He just tried to rape me.
We'll just report him for rape."
They totally helped me, you know.
If there was some trouble going on.
They were very good friends of mine.

Women just carry
Much more shame
Than men ever do.
They have completely different feelings.
You just see it.
They shut down, they become much more apathetic.
They become much more like, they gain weight incredibly fast.
Everyone just got really fat and disgusting in prison.

The only prison I haven't escaped from
I've escaped seven times, you know.
Akureyri, Litla-Hrauni, and breaking in
And back out of Litla-Hrauni.

Escaped seven times.

That's what I think.
Most people go back

If you look at the regulations and all that
It's not rehabilitation.
It's punishment.

This is generally punishment.
It's supposed to be rehabilitation.
So I don't really know
What rehabilitation entails today.
I've never understood it.

This is a punitive policy.
They are punishing you.
There's nothing constructive there.
Even though there's work there and stuff.
There's nothing being
Done to try to build up the person.
And like with the therapy work inside the prisons
Like for the women
There's just nothing!
There's a therapy wing at Litla-Hrauni for men, 11 men.
But there's no therapy wing for women.
Which there should be more of
Than for the men.
Because they are heavier into addiction
Than the men, you know.
They scream if they don't get their drugs.
There's a lack of support for women.
It's just stagnation.

It was just like
It's just a frozen state.
A total shithole.

I'm actually very grateful for
And I'm always saying it
To be a part of this alcoholic community.
Because otherwise I wouldn't be
In this position to be able to clean up
This up there
And my life in this way.
