I'd like to, uh, introduce Bill Danoff
You met him earlier, Bill, come on up
I've known that, I've known bill and taffy for about three and a half years now
And uh, I knew that they were singing together and stuff like that
But I didn't know they were into songwriting until last summer

Uh, when I heard him do a song called "I guess he'd rather be in Colorado" that they had written
And uh, I thought it was one of the prettiest songs that ever heard so
Uh, that that was something and then last winter uh
We had the chance to work together
For the first time, at a club called "The Cellar Door" in Washington DC

You guys from Washington? Is that right? Big deal
No, no, friendly, friendly
We were having a real good time at the, at The Cellar Door
And one night we decided to go back to Bill and Taffy's place to uhm
Kind of jam around boogie for a while and then sometime in the early hours of the morning

Bill came up with a song he had written the verse two
And part of the chorus and had it for about a month and a half
And hadn't been able to finish it and uh, he's sang it for us a couple times
Or what he had for a couple of times

And pretty soon I was kind of throwing some lines at him
And then Taffy started doing it and Bill and pretty soon we were all working on the song
And about seven o'clock in the morning we finished it, and we thought it was a real good song
We started doing it together at the club those nights and the audiences seemed to like it
And so I decided that we should put it on the album, and I was working on at the time
The Poem, Prayer and Promises album

So we went up to New York City and uh recorded the song
And uh, RCA freaked out over the record they, they released it as a single in March
And uh, this week, it's the number one record in the country yup
Uh, no I, it freaks me out I'll tell ya

I'm at, you know-you know, you guys know what Top 40 stations are?
It was number one in the, in-in Washington for, for three weeks
And on Top 40 stations, they always talking with reverb on
And they kind of yelling at you, you know and uh

They would do this thing where they would play a golden oldie
And then they would say "number one then-en-en-en
And number one now-ow-ow"
And then they play our record man

You see it's, it's the first time in all the years that I've been recording and everything like that
That there's been a record that I sing on
That everywhere we go in the country that they, they're playing it on the radio
And, I don't want you to think it's gone to my head

It's just it's just that every time I hear it I have to pull over and stop and uh
Yeah, yeah, the main reason, I know I speak for Bill and Taffy in this
The main reason that we're really excited they have a hit record like this is that
We've always wanted to be able to say that we'd like to do a medley of our hit

Euh, quand je l'ai entendu chanter une chanson intitulée "Je suppose qu'il préférerait être au Colorado" qu'ils avaient écrite
Et euh, j'ai trouvé que c'était l'une des plus jolies chansons que j'aie jamais entendues alors
Euh, c'était quelque chose et puis l'hiver dernier euh
Nous avons eu la chance de travailler ensemble
Pour la première fois, dans un club appelé "The Cellar Door" à Washington DC

On s'amusait vraiment bien au, au Cellar Door
Et un soir, on a décidé d'aller chez Bill et Taffy pour euh
Improviser un peu et puis au petit matin

Bill est arrivé avec une chanson dont il avait écrit le couplet deux
Et une partie du refrain, il l'avait depuis environ un mois et demi
Et n'avait pas réussi à la terminer et euh, il nous l'a chantée quelques fois
Enfin, ce qu'il en avait, quelques fois

Et rapidement, j'ai commencé à lui proposer quelques vers
Et puis Taffy s'y est mise et Bill et bientôt on travaillait tous sur la chanson
Et vers sept heures du matin, on l'a terminée, et on a trouvé que c'était une vraiment bonne chanson
On a commencé à la jouer ensemble au club ces soirs-là et le public a semblé l'apprécier
Alors j'ai décidé qu'on devrait la mettre sur l'album sur lequel je travaillais à l'époque

Alors on est allés à New York et euh on a enregistré la chanson
Et euh, RCA a adoré le disque, ils l'ont sorti en single en mars
Et euh, cette semaine, c'est le numéro un du pays, ouais

C'était numéro un à, à Washington pendant, pendant trois semaines
Et sur les stations Top 40, ils parlent toujours avec de la réverbération
Et ils vous crient un peu dessus, vous savez et euh

Ils faisaient ce truc où ils jouaient un vieux tube
Et puis ils disaient "numéro un al-al-alors
Et numéro un main-main-maintenant"
Et puis ils passent notre disque, mec

Vous voyez, c'est, c'est la première fois en toutes ces années où j'enregistre et tout ça
Qu'il y a un disque sur lequel je chante
Qu'ils passent à la radio partout où on va dans le pays
Et, je ne veux pas que vous pensiez que ça m'est monté à la tête

C'est juste que chaque fois que je l'entends, je dois me garer et m'arrêter et euh
Ouais, ouais, la principale raison, je sais que je parle au nom de Bill et Taffy là-dessus
La principale raison pour laquelle on est vraiment contents d'avoir un tube comme celui-ci, c'est que
