Vagyok a folyton lázadó,
Száműzött, meg nem alkuvó.
Testem egy süllyedő hajó,
De lelkem nem pusztítható.
Letépek minden rabláncot,
Nem tartanak meg vasrácsok,
A szabadság hírét viszem!
Neveltek papok, harcosok,
Keresztet, kardot markolok,
Csaták tüzében edződtem.
Hódítók jöttek, s buktak el,
Keresztül mentem mindenen,
A négy folyót vér öntözi.
Megnyílik felettem az ég,
Kopjafák közt lidérc kísért,
Az ősök dalát énekli.
Csontvázán vonaglik a múlt,
Roppant tehertől földre hullt.
A jövőt kínok közt szüli.
Elsárgult könyvlapokra írt,
Megalkuvó törvényeink,
A tisztítótűz emészti.
Ne kelljen többé fel a Nap!
Míg csak egy rab magyar marad.
Ne ontsa termését a föld!
Míg vissza nem tér minden rög.
Ne adjon Isten vágyakat!
Míg minket más nép fosztogat.
Ne essen éltető eső!
Míg nem köszönt ránk szebb jövő.

The Exile

I am the eternal rebel,
Exiled, unyielding.
My body, a sinking ship,
But my spirit, unbreakable.
I tear off all chains,
Iron bars cannot hold me,
I carry the message of freedom!
Raised by priests and warriors,
I wield the Cross and the Sword,
Tempered in the fires of battle.
Conquerors came and fell,
I endured it all,
The four rivers flow with blood.
The heavens open above me,
Will-o'-the-wisps flicker among the gravestones,
Singing the song of my ancestors.
Skeletons writhe in the past,
Crumbled to the ground under the weight.
The future is born amidst agony.
Written on yellowed pages,
Our wretched laws,
Consumed by the cleansing fire.
May the Sun never rise again!
While a single Hungarian remains enslaved.
May the Earth bear no fruit!
While every inch is not reclaimed.
May God grant us no desires!
While we are plundered by other nations.
May no life-giving rain fall!
Until a brighter future greets us.
