Den Fuchs den plagte der Hunger sehr
Da macht er sich auf ein Gans muß her.
Er schleicht durch den Wald und bittet den Mond,
Daß er ihn mit seinem Licht verschont.

Und so läuft er zum Bauern Tannental
Denn er weiß, der hat Enten und Gänse im Stall.
An denen werde ich mich laben, sagt er ein paar
Fette muß ich haben.

So schnappt er die graue Gans beim Nacken
Und auch ein Entlein bekommt er zu packen.
Doch er kümmert sich nicht um ihr Quack, Quack,
Quack schreit ruhig ihr dummes Federpack.

Von dem Lärm erwacht die Großmama
Sie schaut aus dem Haus, Oh!, der Fuchs ist da.
"Johann!, der Fuchs hat die Gans uns gestohlen
Und will auch noch die Entlein sich holen"

Johann der lädt sein Gewehr mit Schrot,
Verfehlt sein Ziel und die Gans ist tot.
Der Fuchs der lacht nur Ohohoho, ich komme
Mal wieder in zwei Tagen oder so.

Und dann sitzt er mit Kind und Frau zuhaus
Und hält mit ihnen den Festtagsschmaus.
Noch niemals gab es solch ein reiches Mahl
Und am Ende verstreut man die Knochen im Tal.

The Fox

The fox was very hungry
So he set out to get a goose.
He creeps through the forest and asks the moon,
To spare him with its light.

And so he runs to Farmer Tannental
For he knows he has ducks and geese in the stable.
I will feast on them, he says to himself,
I need fat.

So he grabs the gray goose by the neck
And also gets a duckling in his grip.
But he doesn't care about their quack, quack,
Quack, quietly scream your stupid feathered pack.

The noise awakens Grandma
She looks out of the house, Oh!, the fox is there.
"Johann!, the fox has stolen our goose
And he also wants to get the ducklings."

Johann loads his shotgun with buckshot,
Misses his target and the goose is dead.
The fox just laughs, Ohohoho, I'll come
Back in two days or so.

And then he sits at home with his wife and child
And enjoys the feast with them.
Never before has there been such a rich meal
And at the end, the bones are scattered in the valley.
