Me piacerebbe d'esse seppellito,
Magara doppo morto, in cima a un colle,
Senza la cassa, a pelle cò le zolle,
In pizzo ar mare, limpido e infinito.

E ar posto della croce un arberello,
Che sia piantato sull'istessa tera,
De limone, così che a primavera,
Quanno er mare è più liscio e brillarello,

Se spargerà er profumo tutt'attorno,
Vieranno le farfalle cò l'ucelli
A sugamme li fiori tenerelli
E sarò alegro, giorno doppo giorno...

E allora canterò: "Fior de limone...
La vita è un soffio, un mozzico, un sospiro,
Cò la morte diventerà un respiro,
Un profumo, 'na brezza, 'na canzone".

J'aimerais être enterré,
Peut-être après ma mort, au sommet d'une colline,
Sans cercueil, juste ma peau avec la terre,
Près de la mer, limpide et infinie.

Et à la place de la croix, un petit arbre,
Planté sur la même terre,
Un citronnier, afin qu'au printemps,
Lorsque la mer est plus lisse et brillante,

Il diffuse son parfum tout autour,
Les papillons viendront avec les oiseaux
Pour sucer les fleurs tendres
Et je serai heureux, jour après jour...

Et alors je chanterai: "Fleurs de citronnier...
La vie est un souffle, une bouchée, un soupir,
Avec la mort, elle deviendra une respiration,
Un parfum, une brise, une chanson".
