Voy a cantarles un corrido a los presentes,
Que le compuse a Juan Armenta allá en los llanos
Fue pistolero y tuvo fama de valiente
Y de un balazo lo mato su medio hermano,
El provoco y apresuro aquel incidente
Para arrancarse de su pecho un desengaño
Juan quiso hacer de su cuñada su querencia
Porque pensó que aquella dama lo deseaba
Pero tan solo lo trataba con decencia,
Porque a su esposo lo quería y lo respetaba
Y sin pensar y sin medir las consecuencias
En un arranque de locura la raptaba
Ya habían llegado a la cabaña abandonada
Ella llevaba su vestido hecho pedazos
Una mujer que había nacido pa ser honrada
No tiene miedo ni al puñal, ni a los balazos
A su cuñado se lo decía y se lo gritaba
Primero muerta que caer entre tus brazos

Juan era un hombre acostumbrado a las batallas
De los Armenta fue solo un hijo bastardo
Planeo su muerte para ya no ser canalla
Al darse cuenta que su acción fue de un villano
Vacío el revolver y arrojo todas las balas
Y así espero hasta la llegada de su hermano
Llega de pronto a la cabaña el ofendido
Juan saca el arma provocando la pelea
Luego se escucha detonar un solo tiro
Y un cuerpo cae para reunirse con la tierra
Y aquí termino de cantar este corrido
Que llevo siempre por montañas y praderas

Ballad of Juan Armenta

I'm going to sing you a ballad, my dear,
That I wrote for Juan Armenta out on the plains.
He was a gunslinger, known for his bravery,
And was killed by a bullet from his half-brother's hand.
He provoked and hastened that incident,
To tear a disappointment from his chest.
Juan wanted to make his sister-in-law his love,
Because he thought that the lady desired him,
But she only treated him with decency,
Because she loved and respected her husband.
And without thinking, without measuring the consequences,
In a fit of madness, he abducted her.
They had already reached the abandoned cabin,
Her dress was torn to shreds.
A woman born to be honorable,
Fears neither the knife nor the bullets.
She told her brother-in-law and shouted at him,
I'd rather die than fall into your arms!

Juan was a man accustomed to battles,
Of the Armentas, he was just a bastard son.
He planned his own death to no longer be a scoundrel,
Realizing that his action was villainous.
He emptied the revolver and threw away all the bullets,
And so he waited for the arrival of his brother.
Suddenly the offended man arrives at the cabin,
Juan draws his weapon, provoking the fight.
Then a single shot is heard,
And a body falls to reunite with the earth.
And here I finish singing this ballad,
That I always carry through mountains and meadows.
