گفتم این رنج سفر شاید

I thought this arduous journey might

از دلم غم ها برون ریزد

Expel the grief from my heart.

یاد هجر و بی وفایی ها

The memory of separation and infidelity,

زین سفر از دل گریزد

I hoped, would flee on this trip.

ای دریغ آنجا ندیدم من

Alas, there I found nothing

جز افق های مَه آلودی

But misty horizons, my dear.

هرگز از ساز وفا آنجا

From the instrument of fidelity, there

بر نمی آمد سرودی

No melody ever emerged.

یک نگاه مهربان آنجا

A kind glance there

بر نگاه من نمی افتاد

My heart found no joy there either.
