Hierzulande gehen jeden Morgen dummerweise
-Zig Millionen Leute auf die selbe Wahnsinnsreise.
Der Verkehr stürzt alle in mittelschwere Krisen,
Doch wir sind, wie man so sagt, auf′s Auto angewiesen
In einer Zeitung hab' ich neulich noch gelesen:
Demnächst haben außerdem Millionen von Chinesen
Und eine nicht zu knappe Menge junger Russen
Ebenfalls die Nase voll von Bahnen oder Bussen.
Mit dem Autokult, den wir hier seit Jahren praktizieren,
Haben wir′s geschafft, den Rest der Welt zu infizieren.
Wenn die Dinge dort so laufen wie bei uns in Westeuropa,
Dann sag' ich "gute Nacht - ich werd' wohl leider niemals Opa!"
Wär′n wir konsequent, zögen wir die Konsequenzen.
Doch wir spielen lieber weiter Schumacher und Frentzen.
Ab heute ohne mich. Ich mach′ den ersten Schritt
Und spiele ab sofort nicht mehr mit:
Ich schmeiß mein Auto auf den Müll, gleich morgen früh,
Dann hat die liebe Seele Ruh', und alle Leute schau′n mir staunend dabei zu.
Ich schmeiß mein Auto auf den Müll
Und fahre lebenslänglich Rad und Bahn und Bus,
Mit meinem Auto mach' ich Schluß!
Ich bin kein Öko, und ich wähle nicht die Grünen,
Doch ich mag den Wald, das Meer, die Berge und die Dünen.
Was nutzt mir ein Mercedes, mit allem Drum und Dran,
Wenn ich ihn nur noch auf dem Mars fahren kann?
Dann höre ich dich sagen: "Ich habe keine Zeit
Mit Bus und Bahn zu fahren, also ehrlich, tut mir leid!
Und außerdem: Schau sie dir doch an, die deutsche Bahn-
Dauernd Pannen und Verspätungen - das ist der reinste Wahn!"
Das ist zwar leider wahr, doch hör′ zu wenn ich Dir sage:
Der Service wird sich bessern - bei steigender Nachfrage:
Fahren alle mit der Bahn, verdienen die 'nen Haufen,
Und du wirst schon seh′n: Dann wird der Laden laufen.
Doch mit meiner Predigt stoße ich auf taube Ohren.
Zum Ökomissionar bin ich auch leider nicht geboren,
Weil ich beim guten Vorsatz viel zu lang verharre:
Morgen sitz' ich doch nur wieder selber in der Karre!

I'm Throwing My Car in the Trash

Every morning in this country, foolishly,
Millions of people embark on the same insane journey.
Traffic throws everyone into moderate crises,
But we are, as they say, dependent on the car.
In a newspaper, I recently read:
Soon, millions of Chinese people,
And a not insignificant number of young Russians,
Will also have had enough of trains or buses.
With the car culture that we've practiced here for years,
We've managed to infect the rest of the world.
If things go there like they do here in Western Europe,
Then I say "good night - I guess I'll never be a grandpa!"
If we were consistent, we'd draw the consequences.
But we prefer to keep playing Schumacher and Frentzen.
Starting today, without me. I'm taking the first step
And I'm no longer playing along:
I'm throwing my car in the trash, first thing tomorrow,
Then my dear soul will have peace, and everyone will watch me in amazement.
I'm throwing my car in the trash
And I'll ride my bike, the train, and the bus for the rest of my life,
I'm done with my car!
I'm not an eco-freak, and I don't vote Green,
But I like the forest, the sea, the mountains, and the dunes.
What good is a Mercedes, with all the bells and whistles,
If I can only drive it on Mars?
Then I hear you say: "I don't have time
To take the bus and train, so honestly, I'm sorry!
And besides: Look at them, the German railway-
Constant breakdowns and delays - it's pure madness!"
That's unfortunately true, but listen when I tell you:
The service will improve - with increasing demand:
If everyone takes the train, they'll earn a heap,
And you'll see: Then the whole thing will run smoothly.
But with my preaching, I'm falling on deaf ears.
I wasn't born to be an eco-missionary either,
Because I linger too long on good intentions:
Tomorrow I'll just be sitting in the car again!
