All is Vanity

King of Jerusalem

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher
Vanity of vanities!
All is vanity
What does man gain by all the toils
At which he toils under the sun?
A generation goes, and a generation comes
But the earth remains forever (Forever)
The sun rises, and the sun goes down
And hastens to the place where it rises
The wind blows to the south
And goes around to the north
Around and around goes the wind
And on its circuits, the wind returns
All streams run to the sea but the sea is not full
To the place where the stream flows, there they flow again
All things are full of weariness
A man cannot utter it
The eye is not satisfied with seeing
And nor the ear filled with hearing

What has been is always what will be
And what has been done is what will be done
And there is nothing new under the sun
(Under the sun)
Is there a thing of which it is said
"See, this is new"?
It has been already in the ages before us
There is no remembrance of former things
Nor will there be any remembrance of later things
Yet to be among those who come after

The Vanity of Wisdom
I the Preacher, I've been king over Israel in Jerusalem
And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom
All that is done under heaven
It is an unhappy business that God has given
To the children of man to be busy with
I have seen everything that is done under the sun
And behold, all is vanity
And a striving after wind
(Tell me what, tell me what, oh)
What is crooked cannot be made straight
And what is lacking cannot be counted
I said in my heart
"I have acquired great wisdom
Surpassing all who were over Jerusalem before me
And my heart has had great experience with wisdom and knowledge."
And I applied my heart to know wisdom
And to know madness and folly
I perceived that this too is but a striving after wind
(But I can't seem to dodge it)
For in much wisdom is much vexation
And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow
Let me say that again for y'all
For in such wisdom is much vexation
And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow

All is vanity

Savagery, insanity
It means nothing

Vanité des vanités, dit le Prédicateur
Vanité des vanités !
Tout est vanité
Que gagne l’homme de tous les travaux
Avec lesquels il travaille sous le soleil ?
Une génération va, et une génération vient
Mais la terre demeure à jamais (À jamais)
Le soleil se lève, et le soleil se couche
Et se hâte vers le lieu où il se lève
Le vent souffle vers le sud
Et tourne vers le nord
Autour et autour va le vent
Et sur ses circuits, le vent revient
Tous les fleuves coulent vers la mer, mais la mer n’est pas pleine
Vers le lieu où le fleuve coule, ils coulent encore
Tout est rempli de lassitude
L’homme ne peut pas le dire
L’œil n’est pas rassasié de voir
Et l’oreille n’est pas rassasiée d’entendre
(Dis quoi ?)
Ce qui a été est toujours ce qui sera
Et ce qui a été fait est ce qui sera fait
Et il n’y a rien de nouveau sous le soleil
(Sous le soleil)
Y a-t-il une chose dont on dit :
« Regarde, ceci est nouveau » ?
Cela a déjà été dans les âges avant nous
Il n’y a pas de souvenir des choses anciennes
Et il n’y aura pas non plus de souvenir des choses futures
Pourtant, être parmi ceux qui viennent après

La Vanité de la Sagesse
Moi le Prédicateur, j’ai été roi sur Israël à Jérusalem
Et j’ai appliqué mon cœur à chercher et à rechercher par la sagesse
Tout ce qui est fait sous le ciel
C’est une affaire malheureuse que Dieu a donnée
Aux enfants des hommes pour s’occuper
J’ai vu tout ce qui est fait sous le soleil
Et voilà, tout est vanité
Et une course après le vent
(Dis-moi quoi, dis-moi quoi, oh)
Ce qui est tordu ne peut pas être redressé
Et ce qui manque ne peut pas être compté
J’ai dit dans mon cœur :
« J’ai acquis une grande sagesse
Surpassant tous ceux qui étaient au-dessus de Jérusalem avant moi
Et mon cœur a eu une grande expérience de la sagesse et de la connaissance. »
Et j’ai appliqué mon cœur à connaître la sagesse
Et à connaître la folie et la sottise
J’ai compris que ceci aussi n’est qu’une course après le vent
(Mais je ne peux pas sembler l’éviter)
Car dans beaucoup de sagesse, il y a beaucoup d’affliction
Et celui qui multiplie la connaissance multiplie le chagrin
Laisse-moi dire cela encore une fois pour vous
Car dans une telle sagesse, il y a beaucoup d’affliction

Tout est vanité
C’est tout vanité

L’humanité
Débauche
Sauvagerie, insanité
Cela ne signifie rien

Plus tu connais
Plus ça te fait mal
