C'était en puissance tout le drame de mon histoire
Les autres arrivèrent donc sans se presser, chacun sur son cheval à deux roues
Ils me regardèrent comme si j'étais fou, alors Mustaaf, pour me rassurer, il m'a dit que c'était

Après s'être copieusement insultés pour se convaincre qu'on s'aimait
Comme un essaim d'abeilles on s'est tous envolés
Je pédalais sur l'asphalte de mon destin

Mon frère aîné était là aussi, mais ça l'ennuyait que je sois de la partie

Le surlendemain après-midi devant la JEEP, le centre de prévention du quartier
Je jouais au ping-pong sur la table bétonnée
J'avais des pansements de partout à cause de l'accident, alors, par pitié, on me laissait gagner
Majid était là comme mon petit frère et moi, comme son frère aîné
Qui pouvait se douter que dans quelques années le destin allait nous trier?

C'étaient nos raquettes et nos balles mais on leur a laissées tellement que c'était plus marrant
On est allés ensuite dans la cave de mon immeuble pour récupérer nos vélos
L'entrée était encombrée par des grands qui pompaient de la colle et ça nous faisait flipper grave, même s'ils étaient tous KO
On a récupéré, tant bien que mal, nos motos sans moteur
Et on a roulé comme des fous jusqu'au parc Schumeister
Juste avant de prendre le pont on s'est dit "Viens, on fait la course!"
C'est là que le pied de Majid il a glisse de la pédale et qu'il est tombé à mi-course
Je me suis arrêté, catastrophé et je l'ai regardé rouler, rouler, rouler
Et quelques secondes après son accident je l'ai pris dans mes bras et on a pleuré, pleuré, pleuré

Le week-end d'après, tellement qu'il faisait soif
On a décidé d'aller se baigner au lac Achard

C'était à l'époque -que dis-je?- à la grande époque de Bernard Hinault
Ça faisait vraiment classe en ce temps-là de faire du vélo
On était plus de cinquante sur la route, t'imagines!
Têtes d'enfants déjà cassées et gueules citadines
Je sais plus trop d'où est venue la queue-de-poisson
Un coup de poisse en plein milieu du peloton
Je ne sais ni pourquoi, ni comment mais je suis le seul à être tombé et à avoir roulé, roulé, roulé

It was during the summer holidays, in the projects,
Back then, I was barely a teenager.
So it was a few years ago,
I was dreaming in the street, sitting on my old BMX bike,
And from time to time, I looked left and right, waiting for the others.
I was always on time when we set up meetings. I was the youngest and the most serious.
It was, in essence, the whole drama of my story.
The others arrived without rushing, each on their two-wheeled steed.
They looked at me like I was crazy, so Mustaaf, to reassure me, told me it was
Them, not me, who were weird.

After insulting each other copiously to convince ourselves that we loved each other,
Like a swarm of bees, we all flew away.
I pedaled on the asphalt of my destiny,
Like a fish in water dreaming of being a shark.
My older brother was there too, but he was annoyed that I was part of it.
It was just a temporary reluctance, I thought, and time would prove me right.
When the wheel came off the fork of my bike, I watched it roll, roll, roll,

The day after tomorrow, in the afternoon, in front of the JEEP, the neighborhood prevention center,
I was playing ping-pong on the concrete table.
I had bandages everywhere because of the accident, so out of pity, they let me win.
Majid was there, like my little brother, and I, like his older brother.
Who could have guessed that in a few years, fate would sort us out?
The guys around the table were yelling, "I'm taking the winner, I'm taking the winner!"
It was our rackets and our balls, but we let them have them so much that it wasn't fun anymore.
We then went to the basement of my building to get our bikes.
The entrance was crowded with older guys who were sniffing glue, and it scared the hell out of us, even though they were all knocked out.
We retrieved, as best we could, our motorless motorcycles,
And we rode like crazy to Schumeister Park.
Just before taking the bridge, we said, "Come on, let's race!"
That's when Majid's foot slipped off the pedal and he fell mid-race.
I stopped, devastated, and watched him roll, roll, roll.
And a few seconds after his accident, I took him in my arms and we cried, cried, cried.

The following weekend, we were so thirsty,
We decided to go swimming at Lake Achard.
Before we went, two friends who have since died,
Started making fun of me in front of the group because respect has no price.
They were bigger than me, so I didn't say anything.
Mustaaf saw that I was disgusted, so he told me,
"I'll take you on the back of my bike so you won't have to pedal,
Since your wounds haven't really healed yet."
I wanted to refuse out of pride, but I told myself Mahlich,
