He lost the rest of it to the state
And without food and with incentive gone
City life stagnated and declined
And Rome past into what history has recorded as the "Dark Ages

Le Monde Tourne en Rond

Environ 290 ans après Jésus-Christ, un empereur romain
Nommé Dioclétien prit le pouvoir.
Il a vraiment pris le taureau par les cornes.

Il a stoppé les profits, il a dicté à l'agriculteur ce qu'il devait planter,
quand et comment il devait le vendre et pour combien.
Et il a rationné la nourriture. Et que s'est-il passé ?
Le marché du travail s'est effondré, l'incitation a disparu.
La vie agricole est devenue dépendante de la bureaucratie.
Des impôts exorbitants ont coûté sa terre à l'agriculteur.
Il n'a gardé pour lui qu'une petite parcelle sur laquelle
il pouvait faire pousser des navets pour sa famille.
Il a perdu le reste au profit de l'État.
Et sans nourriture et sans incitation,
la vie urbaine a stagné et décliné.
Et Rome est entrée dans ce que l'histoire a appelé le "Siècle des Ténèbres",
qui a duré mille ans.
Mille ans.
