It seems to me as though I've been upon this stage before
And juggled away the night for the same old crowd
These harlequins you see with me, they too have held the floor
As here once again they strut and they fret their hour

I see those half-familiar faces in the second row

And was I there among them then, in some travelling show
And is it all still locked inside my head for infinity

And some of you are harmonies to all the notes I play
Although we may not meet still you know me well
While others talk in secret keys and transpose all I say
And nothing I do or try can get me through the spell

So one more time we'll dim the lights and ring the curtain up
And play again like all the times before
But far behind the music you can almost hear the sounds
Of laughter like the waves upon the shores of infinity

Es scheint mir, als stünde ich schon einmal auf dieser Bühne
Und hätte die Nacht für dieselbe alte Menge jongliert
Diese Harlekine hier bei mir, sie haben auch schon die Bühne beherrscht
Und nun schreiten und zappeln sie wieder ihre Stunde lang

Ich sehe diese halb vertrauten Gesichter in der zweiten Reihe
Geisterhaft mit dem Scheinwerferlicht in ihren Augen
Doch wo oder wann wir uns so das letzte Mal trafen, weiß ich einfach nicht
Es ist wie ein Akkord, der klingt und niemals stirbt, in alle Ewigkeit

Und nun diese Gestalten in den Kulissen mit ihren ruhelosen Melodien
Sie warten darauf, dass jemand ihre Namen ruft
Sie wandern die Hintergänge entlang und streifen durch die Garderoben
Und verschwinden zu Lichtpunkten in den Bilderrahmen

Doch bewegten sie sich vor tausend Jahren auf der Bühne
In einem Stück in Paris oder Madrid
Und war ich damals unter ihnen, in einer Wanderbühne
Und ist das alles noch immer in meinem Kopf eingeschlossen, in alle Ewigkeit

Und einige von euch sind Harmonien zu all den Tönen, die ich spiele
Auch wenn wir uns nicht treffen, kennt ihr mich doch gut
Während andere in geheimen Schlüsseln sprechen und alles, was ich sage, transponieren
Und nichts, was ich tue oder versuche, kann mich durch den Zauber bringen

Also lasst uns noch einmal das Licht dimmen und den Vorhang hochziehen
Und wieder spielen wie all die Male zuvor
