くたびれた 馬車に揺られ
少年と 話をした
1000の国を 旅したという
その目が見て来たものは
天空に浮かぶ城や
怪物や 宝の島
ある町の 賢者は言った
少年の肩を抱いて
「愛しか知らず 生まれた者が
愛の意味を忘れて 生きてはならぬ」
干し草の ベッドの上
星空を 見上げながら
旅に出た 訳を訊くと
少年はそっと泣いた
「泣いて叫んで 生まれた者が
涙かくし一人で 生きてはならぬ」
少年は 最後に言った
「1000の国を 旅したけれど
探してた 愛はきっと
すぐそばにあったんだ」と

A Boy Who Traveled to 1000 Countries

In a weary wagon, swaying,
I conversed with a boy,
Who had journeyed through 1000 countries,
I wondered what his eyes had beheld,
Castles floating high in the sky,
Monsters and islands of treasure.
A wise man in a certain town,
Embracing the boy's shoulders, said,
'One born knowing only love,
Must never forget its meaning in life.'
On a bed of hay,
Gazing up at the starry sky,
When I inquired the reason for his travels,
The boy wept softly,
'One who is born crying and screaming,
Must never live alone hiding their tears.'
The boy uttered these final words,
'Though I have journeyed to 1000 countries,
The love I sought was surely,
Always nearby.' And so it was.
