Tandis que d'autres pauvres hères sont sales et misérables,

"Mais", dit Arthur, "Je ne serais pas fier de tes vêtements,
Car tu ne fais que les emprunter, je suppose,
Mais tu n'oserais pas les changer une seule nuit, car tu sais
Que si tu le fais, tu seras fouetté le matin."
Et bien que nous soyons célibataires et libres,
Nous prenons grand plaisir à notre propre compagnie,
Nous n'avons aucun désir de voir des endroits étranges,
Bien que tes offres soient charmantes.
Et nous n'avons aucun désir d'accepter ton avance,
Nous défions tous les dangers et les risques,

Alors Arthur et moi, nous avons vite dégainé nos couteaux,
Et nous leur avons à peine laissé le temps de dégainer les leurs,

Et leurs vieilles rapières rouillées qui pendaient à leurs côtés,

"Et aiguisez-les bien demain matin !"
Et le petit tambour, nous avons aplati son arc,
Et nous avons fait un ballon de football de son boum-boum-boum,
Nous l'avons jeté dans la marée pour qu'il se balance et roule,
Et lui avons souhaité un retour difficile.
Et comme nous n'avions pas d'argent, nous les avons payés en coups,
Nous n'avons eu aucun respect pour leurs deux dos ensanglantés,
Et nous les avons savonnés comme une paire de sacs mouillés,
Et les avons laissés pour morts le matin.
Et donc, pour conclure et mettre fin aux disputes,
Nous leur avons obligeamment demandé s'ils avaient besoin de recrues,
Car nous étions les gars qui leur donneraient de solides coups,
Et leur avons dit de se tenir prêts le matin.
