But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
Different
colours,
different
faces
Des
couleurs
différentes,
des
visages
différents
Different
schools
in
different
places
Des
écoles
différentes
dans
des
endroits
différents
Scour
the
morning
papers,
all
in
vain
Parcourir
les
journaux
du
matin,
tout
est
vain
Evening
after,
who
remembers?
Soir
après
soir,
qui
se
souvient
?
Say
your
prayers
for
the
great
pretenders
Prie
pour
les
grands
prétendants
I
see
nothing
but
flowers,
all
in
vain
Je
ne
vois
que
des
fleurs,
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
But
it's
all
in
vain
Mais
tout
est
vain
All
the
gravestone
elegies
Toutes
les
élégies
de
pierre
tombale
I-never-met-you
memories
Des
souvenirs
de
"je
ne
t'ai
jamais
rencontrée"
And
every
TV
picture,
all
in
vain
Et
chaque
image
à
la
télévision,
tout
est
vain
All
your
questions,
deep
as
skin
Toutes
tes
questions,
profondes
comme
la
peau
Seperate
worlds
to
put
them
in
Des
mondes
séparés
pour
les
y
mettre
Another
might-have-been,
all
in
vain
Un
autre
qui
aurait
pu
être,
tout
est
vain
I
wish
(colour
blind
as
tse-tse
flies)
Je
voudrais
(aveugle
aux
couleurs
comme
les
mouches
tsé-tsé)
I
wish
(sucking
all
our
difference
dry)
Je
voudrais
(aspirant
toute
notre
différence)
I
wish
(and
as
we
sleep
they
multiply)
Je
voudrais
(et
pendant
que
nous
dormons,
ils
se
multiplient)
I
wish
(and
as
we
sleep
they
multiply)
Je
voudrais
(et
pendant
que
nous
dormons,
ils
se
multiplient)
All
in
vain
Tout
est
vain
I
wish
(and
as
we
sleep
they
multiply)
Je
voudrais
(et
pendant
que
nous
dormons,
ils
se
multiplient)
All
in
vain
Tout
est
vain
I
wish
(and
as
we
sleep
they
multiply)
Je
voudrais
(et
pendant
que
nous
dormons,
ils
se
multiplient)

The Boy Bands Have Won, and All the Copyists and the Tribute Bands and the TV Talent Show Producers Have Won, If We Allow Our Culture to Be Shaped by Mimicry, Whether from Lack of Ideas or From Exaggerated Respect. You Should Never Try to Freeze Culture. What You Can Do Is Recycle That Culture. Take Your Older Brother's Hand-Me-Down Jacket and Re-Style It, Re-Fashion It to the Point Where It Becomes Your Own. But Don't Just Regurgitate Creative History, or Hold Art and Music and Literature as Fixed, Untouchable and Kept Under Glass. The People Who Try to 'Guard' Any Particular Form of Music Are, Like the Copyists and Manufactured Bands, Doing It the Worst Disservice, Because the Only Thing That You Can Do to Music That Will Damage It Is Not Change It, Not Make It Your Own. Because Then It Dies, Then It's Over, Then It's Done, and the Boy Bands Have Won.
