Laughter In a Time of War
Смех во время войны
Sometimes
feels
like
singing
your
life
away
Иногда
хочется
просто
пропеть
всю
свою
жизнь,
F
sharp
minor
up
and
down
the
motorway
От
фа-диез
минора
до
мажора
по
автостраде.
Too
dog-tired;
wouldn't
want
it
any
other
way
Устал,
как
собака,
но
по-другому
и
не
надо,
Laughter
in
a
time
of
War
Смех
во
время
войны.
Love
on
a
Monday,
football
on
a
Saturday
Любовь
по
понедельникам,
футбол
по
субботам,
Home-grown
strawberries
to
justify
the
rain
Клубника
с
грядки
– вот
оправдание
дождям.
Sometimes
I
do,
but
I
shouldn't
complain
Иногда
я
жалуюсь,
но
не
должен
бы,
мадам,
Laughter
in
a
time
of
War
Смех
во
время
войны.
We
got
oil
for
the
pan
У
нас
есть
масло
для
сковороды,
We
got
rock
n
roll
У
нас
есть
рок-н-ролл,
Laughter
lines
run
deeper
than
skin
Морщинки
от
смеха
глубже,
чем
кожа,
And
the
world's
just
А
мир
– это
просто
Something
that
the
cat
brought
in
То,
что
кошка
притащила
в
дом.
Late
summer
evening
after
the
attack
Поздний
летний
вечер
после
атаки,
Food
from
the
aeroplanes
wrapped
up
in
a
flag
Еда
с
самолетов,
завернутая
во
флаг.
He
went
for
the
money
but
he
won't
come
back
Он
пошел
за
деньгами,
но
не
вернется
никак,
Laughter
in
a
time
of
War
Смех
во
время
войны.
Take
my
life
and
sing
it
back
to
me
Возьми
мою
жизнь
и
спой
ее
мне,
My
big
mouth,
it's
my
own
worst
enemy
Мой
длинный
язык
– мой
злейший
враг,
Funny
how
it
all
sounds
better
in
harmony
Забавно,
как
все
звучит
лучше
в
гармонии,
так?
Laughter
in
a
time
of
War
Смех
во
время
войны.
The
people
at
the
top
have
further
to
fall
Тем,
кто
наверху,
падать
больнее
всего.

The Boy Bands Have Won, and All the Copyists and the Tribute Bands and the TV Talent Show Producers Have Won, If We Allow Our Culture to Be Shaped by Mimicry, Whether from Lack of Ideas or From Exaggerated Respect. You Should Never Try to Freeze Culture. What You Can Do Is Recycle That Culture. Take Your Older Brother's Hand-Me-Down Jacket and Re-Style It, Re-Fashion It to the Point Where It Becomes Your Own. But Don't Just Regurgitate Creative History, or Hold Art and Music and Literature as Fixed, Untouchable and Kept Under Glass. The People Who Try to 'Guard' Any Particular Form of Music Are, Like the Copyists and Manufactured Bands, Doing It the Worst Disservice, Because the Only Thing That You Can Do to Music That Will Damage It Is Not Change It, Not Make It Your Own. Because Then It Dies, Then It's Over, Then It's Done, and the Boy Bands Have Won.
