Psalm 84[a]
For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
For the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh cry out
For the living God.
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may have her young—
A place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
They are ever praising you.[c]
5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
Whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
They make it a place of springs;
The autumn rains also cover it with pools.[d]
7 They go from strength to strength,
Till each appears before God in Zion.
8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;
Listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield,[e] O God;
Look with favor on your anointed one.
10 Better is one day in your courts
Than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord bestows favor and honor;
No good thing does he withhold
From those whose walk is blameless.

1 Combien ta demeure est agréable,
Seigneur des armées !
2 Mon âme soupire et languit
Après les parvis de l'Éternel ;
Mon cœur et ma chair crient
Vers le Dieu vivant.
3 Même le passereau trouve un logis,
Et l'hirondelle un nid pour elle,
Où elle dépose ses petits,
Près de ton autel,
Seigneur des armées, mon roi et mon Dieu.
4 Heureux ceux qui habitent ta maison !
Ils te louent sans cesse.[c]
5 Heureux ceux dont la force est en toi,
Qui ont dans le cœur le pèlerinage.
6 En traversant la vallée de Baca,
Ils la changent en un lieu de sources ;
La pluie d'automne la couvre de nappes d'eau.[d]
7 Ils vont de force en force,
Jusqu'à ce que chacun paraisse devant Dieu à Sion.
8 Éternel, Dieu des armées, écoute ma prière ;
Prête l'oreille, Dieu de Jacob.
9 Regarde, Dieu, notre bouclier ;
Porte un regard favorable sur ton oint.
10 Mieux vaut un jour dans tes parvis
Que mille ailleurs ;
J'aimerais mieux être le portier de la maison de mon Dieu
Que d'habiter sous les tentes des méchants.
11 Car l'Éternel Dieu est un soleil et un bouclier ;
L'Éternel donne la grâce et la gloire ;
Il ne refuse aucun bien
À ceux qui marchent dans l'intégrité.
12 Éternel des armées,
Heureux celui qui se confie en toi
