Master's Call

When I was but a young man I was wild and full of fire
A youth within my teens but full of challenge and desire
I ran away from home and left my mother and my dad
I know it grieved them so to think their only boy was bad

I fell in with an outlaw band, their names were known quite well
How many times we robbed and plundered, I could never tell
This kind of sinful livin' leads only to a fall
I learned that much and more the night I heard my master call

One night we rustled cattle, a thousand head or so
And started them out on the trail that leads to Mexico
But a norther started blowin' and lightnin' flashed about
I thought someone was calling me I thought I heard a shout

Then at that moment lightning struck not twenty yards from me
And left there was a giant cross where once there was a tree
And this time I knew a heard a voice, a voice so sweet and strange
A voice that came from everywhere, a voice that called my name

So frightened I was thinking of sinful deeds I'd done
I failed to see a thousand head of cattle start to run
The cattle they stampeded, were running all around
My pony ran but stumbled and it threw me to the ground

I felt the end was nearing, that death would be the price
When a mighty bolt of lightning showed the face of Jesus Christ
And I cried, "Oh Lord, forgive me, don't let it happen now
I want to live for You alone, oh God these words I vow"

My wicked past unfolded, I thought of wasted years
When another bolt of lightning killed a hundred head of steers
And the others rushed on by me, and I was left to live
The Master had a reason, life is His to take and give

A miracle performed that night, I wasn't meant to die
The dead ones formed a barricade least 6 or 7 high
Right behind it, there was I, afraid but safe and sound
I cried and begged for mercy kneeling there upon the ground

A pardon I was granted, my sinful soul set free
No more to fear the angry waves upon life's stormy sea
Forgiven by the love of God, a love that will remain
I gave my life and soul the night the Savior called my name

L'appel du Maître

Quand j'étais un jeune homme, j'étais sauvage et plein de feu
Un jeune homme dans mes années d'adolescence, mais plein de défis et de désirs
J'ai fui de la maison et j'ai quitté ma mère et mon père
Je sais que ça les a beaucoup attristés de penser que leur seul garçon était mauvais

Je me suis retrouvé avec une bande de hors-la-loi, leurs noms étaient bien connus
Combien de fois nous avons volé et pillé, je ne saurais le dire
Ce genre de vie pécheresse ne mène qu'à une chute
J'ai appris cela et bien plus encore la nuit où j'ai entendu l'appel de mon maître

Un soir, nous avons volé du bétail, un millier de têtes environ
Et nous les avons mis sur le chemin qui mène au Mexique
Mais un vent du nord s'est levé et la foudre a éclaté
J'ai pensé que quelqu'un m'appelait, j'ai pensé avoir entendu un cri

Puis, à ce moment-là, la foudre a frappé à moins de vingt mètres de moi
Et il est resté là une croix géante où il y avait autrefois un arbre
Et cette fois, j'ai senti une voix, une voix si douce et étrange
Une voix qui venait de partout, une voix qui appelait mon nom

J'avais tellement peur de penser aux actes pécheurs que j'avais commis
Je n'ai pas vu un millier de têtes de bétail se mettre à courir
Le bétail a fait une ruée, il courait partout
Mon poney a couru mais s'est heurté et m'a jeté à terre

J'ai senti que la fin approchait, que la mort serait le prix à payer
Quand un puissant éclair a montré le visage de Jésus-Christ
Et j'ai crié : "Oh Seigneur, pardonne-moi, ne laisse pas cela arriver maintenant
Je veux vivre pour Toi seul, oh Dieu, ces mots, je les jure"

Mon passé pervers s'est déroulé, j'ai pensé aux années perdues
Quand un autre éclair a tué une centaine de bœufs
Et les autres se sont précipités sur moi, et j'ai été laissé en vie
Le Maître avait une raison, la vie est à lui pour la prendre et la donner

Un miracle a été accompli cette nuit-là, je n'étais pas destiné à mourir
Les morts ont formé une barricade d'au moins 6 ou 7 de haut
Juste derrière, il y avait moi, effrayé mais sain et sauf
J'ai pleuré et supplié pour avoir pitié, agenouillé là sur le sol

Un pardon m'a été accordé, mon âme pécheresse a été libérée
Plus jamais à craindre les vagues en colère sur la mer tempétueuse de la vie
Pardonné par l'amour de Dieu, un amour qui restera
J'ai donné ma vie et mon âme la nuit où le Sauveur a appelé mon nom
