Often I wondered,
If he really exists,
Of whom the operetta says,
That he loves so princely.
Then I went to the Eifel
To that small country,
And asked full of doubts
The first one I found:

"No," he said and laughed softly,
"That's not me, unfortunately".

He greeted and went on,
Before I realized it.

He said and dismounted from the horse,
"The Count, he lived in Paris,
