Oyoge! Taiyakikun

Every single day, darling, we sizzle on the griddle,
We get so sick of being near to death.
One morning, I had a row with the shop guy,
So into the sea, I took a leap of faith.

For the first time, I swam the ocean's floor,
And oh, how good it felt to be free!
My sweet red bean paste was weighing me down,
But the vastness of the sea put my heart at ease.
Peach-colored corals waved their little arms,
Watching me swim with all their charm.

Every day's a joyride, darling, in this deep blue sea,
A passing ship, my cozy little hideaway.
Sharks do sometimes give me a bit of a scare,
But when they come, I just swim out of there.

After swimming for a while, my tummy starts to rumble,
My eyes go spinning round and round.
Sometimes I manage to gobble up a shrimp,
But too much salt water makes my scales shrivel.
My luck ran out when, from behind a rock,
A tiny little fishhook gave me quite a shock.

No matter how hard I fought, my darling,
The hook was caught fast in my throat.
A stranger on the shore was taken by surprise,
When he pulled me from the water, with bulging eyes.

After all, I'm just a taiyaki, my love,
A slightly burnt taiyaki, from up above.
The man gulped hard, then took a bite,
And I was gone, a tasty treat, in the dead of night.
