Am nächsten Morgen stand ich auf
Und dann bekam ich einen Schreck:
Der Posaunist war einfach weg

Er ist nicht der Junge mit der Mundharmonika
Er braucht kein Bett und keine weiche Daune
Er raucht ziemlich viel
Und das ist schlecht für sein Spiel
Er ist, was er ist: der Mann mit der Posaune

The Trombonist

One evening he just stood before my door
The sun was just about to set
Suddenly stood there and said nothing - not a word - to me
As if he was always standing there like that

I spoke to him, but he didn't speak
Just stood there in the backlight

I didn't know who he was at first
I didn't know what his name was
But then I saw his instrument

You don't know where he's from
And you don't know what his name is
But he usually spreads good cheer
He's pretty good
At what he does
You only know him as the man with the trombone

I can't say how much time had passed
Luckily, I don't wear a watch
The sun had set in America by now
But he didn't move an inch

His instrument firmly in his hand
Well, it wasn't so exciting anymore

I went inside and closed the door
His silence echoed through the house
I looked out at him again

He was still standing there, like a monument to himself

He doesn't have a beard, and yet he's hard

The trombonist had simply gone

He's not the boy with the harmonica
He doesn't need a bed or a soft down
He smokes quite a lot
And that's bad for his playing
