Una cosa digo

The Songs of a Worm

One thing I say, my dear,
If your grace would allow me,
And put aside for a moment
Your manual on your mind.
If someone has come to the world
For something, it's not me;
But I keep the habit
Of singing wherever I go.
I have come by paths
Where the night is spent,
Where the Moon and the wine
Are celebrated with disorder.
And I have learned what I know,
Which, if not much, is enough
To take each day
What ultimately satisfies me.
Hurried and hasty
I only pass by,
As they pass through the forest
The intricate paths.
Through the highlands
And the solid hills,
By my short beard,
If the views don't please me.
I should have been the son of hawks
And dwell on summits and peaks,
And spot the travelers
Standing like the oaks.
But I am just a devil
Who wasn't asked,
As happened to everyone,
I'm getting used to it.
To the restrictions
Of my human condition,
And to a cunning name,
That of a superior animal.
I who am not an emissary
Neither of names, nor of fates,
Nor lord of the habitat
Of what I catch with my teeth.
More than once I have left
Adventurous and wandering,
Like so many who left
Because they no longer believe in the world.
Hurried and hasty,
I only pass by,
As minstrels and bards tell stories,
So do I.
When my song weakens,
When I slow down,
I don't leave the route,
I just take a break.
There are days to walk without pause
And there are days that stop us,
I replenish myself these days
For all those to come.
I like the blue of the sky,
The icy air, and I am amazed
By the light that leaves me blind
And always keeps a shadow for me.
For autumn, when the forest
Has carpeted itself with tinsel,
And the aroma of wood
Becomes the sunset.
I am a singing cicada
That still mocks the ant,
I am an earthworm,
Powerful and full of life.
It will be the rich landscapes
Or the afternoon with its ranges,
That the verses yield honest
And entertain on the march.
And adjusting to my step
And to the road that is finally missing,
The songs come to me
As the distances are fulfilled.
