T'was on the Monday morning, the gas man came to call,
The gas tap wouldn't turn, I wasn't getting gas at all;
He tore out all the skirting boards to try and find the main,
And I had to call a carpenter to put them back again!

T'was on a Wednesday morning, the electrician came:
He called me 'Mr. Sanderson', which isn't quite the name;
He couldn't reach the fuse box without standing on the bin,
And his foot went through a window, so I called the glazier in!

T'was on the Thursday morning, the glazier came along
With his blowtorch, and his putty, and his merry glazier's song;
He put another pane in, it took no time at all
But I had to get a painter in to come and paint the wall!

With undercoats and overcoats he painted every part,
Every nook and every cranny; but I found when he was gone
He'd painted over the gas tap and I couldn't turn it on!

Le Gazier Arrive

C'était lundi matin, le gazier est venu frapper,
Le robinet de gaz ne voulait pas tourner, je n'avais plus de gaz du tout;
Il a arraché toutes les plinthes pour essayer de trouver le conduit principal,
Et j'ai dû appeler un charpentier pour les remettre en place !
Oh, tout ça fait du travail pour l'homme qui travaille à faire...
C'était mardi matin, le charpentier est arrivé:
Il a martelé et ciselé et a dit "Regarde ce que j'ai trouvé !
Tes solives sont pleines de pourriture sèche, mais je vais les remettre en état !"
Puis il a cloué directement dans un câble et toutes les lumières se sont éteintes !
Oh, tout ça fait du travail pour l'homme qui travaille à faire...
C'était mercredi matin, l'électricien est venu :
Il m'a appelé "Monsieur Sanderson", ce qui n'est pas tout à fait mon nom ;
Il n'arrivait pas à atteindre la boîte à fusibles sans monter sur la poubelle,
Et son pied a traversé une fenêtre, alors j'ai appelé le vitrier !
Oh, tout ça fait du travail pour l'homme qui travaille à faire...
C'était jeudi matin, le vitrier est arrivé
Avec son chalumeau, son mastic, et sa joyeuse chanson de vitrier ;
Il a remis une autre vitre, ça n'a pris aucun temps du tout
Mais j'ai dû faire venir un peintre pour venir peindre le mur !
Oh, tout ça fait du travail pour l'homme qui travaille à faire...
C'était vendredi matin, le peintre a commencé,
Avec des sous-couches et des couches de finition, il a peint chaque partie,
Chaque recoin et chaque fissure ; mais j'ai trouvé qu'une fois qu'il est parti
Il avait peint par-dessus le robinet de gaz et je ne pouvais pas l'ouvrir !
Oh, tout ça fait du travail pour l'homme qui travaille à faire...
Le samedi et le dimanche, ils ne travaillent pas du tout ;
Alors c'était lundi matin que le gazier est venu frapper !
