WHAT LIVING IS ALL ABOUT

Dr. Neil Frank, Neil, would you come up here
And stand beside me for a moment?
Um

Several years ago, I came out of church one Sunday morning
Met an airline pilot, he asked me a very simple question
He said, "What are you really doing here?"
I thought for a minute and I said
"Well, we've got small children and we think it's important
That they be in Sunday school"

He said, "If there's something here for them
Don't you think there might be something here for you"
How dare this guy challenge me on what I was doing every morning
But I went home, and after the anger subsided
I became more rational
And if I was honest with you tonight
I'm telling you I set out to prove that there was no God
So that I could go to golf course on Sunday morning
And not have my conscience bother me

But one day in frustration, driving down I-95 going to work
I just looked up and said, "God, I confess that I'm a sinner
If that's what selfishness is, then I'm a sinner"
And you know what happened? Nothing
I didn't see any angels, I didn't hear the heavenly choir
I didn't have any sense of peace, I just putted on down the road, went to work

Got home that night, I'd almost forgot about the incident
And I picked up my Bible, see, I'm still trying to prove there's no God
And somebody messed with my book, somebody messed with my book
I understood things that I didn't understand the night before
That's right
That's right

It says in the 4th chapter of Second Corinthians
"But there is a veil over the eyes of the unbeliever
That they cannot discern the truth"
But it says in the 3rd chapter
"When you turn in repentance, that veil is lifted"
And that veil was lifted, and I became a new creature in Christ Jesus
And my-, and you bet there was a change in my life
A change in my value system, a change in my understanding
And certainly a change in my concept of this person of Christ
Have you had your veil lifted tonight?

Let me tell you the great tragedy in modern America
The great tragedy is that many of us have never taken the time
To find out what living is all about
To find out what living's all about
And the answer maybe what I consider
To be the most important question in life
"Is there a God, and if there is
What must I do to be related to him?"

et vous tenir à côté de moi un instant ?
Hum

Il y a plusieurs années, je suis sorti de l'église un dimanche matin
J'ai rencontré un pilote de ligne, il m'a posé une question très simple
Il m'a dit : « Que faites-vous vraiment ici ? »
J'ai réfléchi une minute et j'ai dit
« Eh bien, nous avons de jeunes enfants et nous pensons qu'il est important
qu'ils soient à l'école du dimanche »

Il a dit : « S'il y a quelque chose ici pour eux,
ne pensez-vous pas qu'il pourrait y avoir quelque chose ici pour vous ? »
Comment ce type osait-il me remettre en question sur ce que je faisais chaque matin ?
Mais je suis rentré chez moi, et après que la colère se soit dissipée,
je suis devenu plus rationnel.
Et si je dois être honnête avec vous ce soir, chérie,
je vous dis que je me suis mis en tête de prouver que Dieu n'existait pas
pour pouvoir aller au golf le dimanche matin
sans que ma conscience me tourmente.

Mais un jour, frustré, en conduisant sur l'I-95 pour aller au travail,
j'ai levé les yeux et j'ai dit : « Mon Dieu, je confesse que je suis un pécheur.
Si l'égoïsme est un péché, alors je suis un pécheur. »
Et vous savez ce qui s'est passé ? Rien.
Je n'ai pas vu d'anges, je n'ai pas entendu la chorale céleste,
je n'ai ressenti aucune paix, j'ai continué ma route et je suis allé travailler.

Je suis rentré à la maison ce soir-là, j'avais presque oublié l'incident
et j'ai pris ma Bible. Voyez-vous, j'essayais toujours de prouver que Dieu n'existait pas,
et quelqu'un avait touché à mon livre, quelqu'un avait touché à mon livre.
Je comprenais des choses que je ne comprenais pas la veille.
C'est vrai.
C'est vrai.

Il est écrit au 4e chapitre de la Deuxième Épître aux Corinthiens :
« Mais il y a un voile sur les yeux des incrédules
afin qu'ils ne puissent discerner la vérité. »
Mais il est écrit au 3e chapitre :
« Lorsque vous vous repentez, ce voile est levé. »
Et ce voile a été levé, et je suis devenu une nouvelle créature en Jésus-Christ.
Et ma… et vous pouvez être sûre qu'il y a eu un changement dans ma vie,
un changement dans mon système de valeurs, un changement dans ma compréhension
et certainement un changement dans ma conception de cette personne du Christ.
Votre voile a-t-il été levé ce soir, ma chérie ?

Laissez-moi vous parler de la grande tragédie de l'Amérique moderne.
La grande tragédie est que beaucoup d'entre nous n'ont jamais pris le temps
de découvrir ce qu'est vraiment la vie,
de découvrir ce qu'est vraiment la vie.
Et la réponse est peut-être ce que je considère
comme la question la plus importante de la vie :
« Y a-t-il un Dieu, et s'il y en a un,
que dois-je faire pour être en relation avec lui ? »
