Well the latest craze going around
Is called the video cassete recorder.
And I was the first one in my town
To send off my money order.
Well I thought that thing would never get here
But old UPS came through.
I ripped the box apart and bless their hearts
They sent a free movie too.
Well I hooked it up once
And I hooked it up twice and 8 or 9 more times.
I had it all wrong but I finally got it right,
Just play, stop, rewind.
I grabbed the movie they sent and I shoved it right in
It was called The X-Rated Reviews.
Now, I seen movies where folks kiss
But I never seen nothing like this.
Oh Lord, I got the video blues.

Well I drove downtown to join the tape club
And friends I′ve got some news.
Most all the movies they had down there
Was just like they one they sent me too.
I bought Star Wars, Jaws, Poltergeist, Superman 1 and 2.
When they added it up I'd spent three hundred bucks.

Also, der neueste Schrei, der gerade umgeht,
Nennt sich Videokassettenrekorder.
Und ich war der Erste in meiner Stadt,
Der seine Zahlungsanweisung abschickte.
Nun, ich dachte, das Ding würde nie hier ankommen,
Aber der gute alte UPS hat's geschafft.
Ich riss den Karton auf und Gott sei Dank,
Sie schickten auch einen Gratisfilm mit.
Also, ich schloss ihn einmal an,
Und ich schloss ihn zweimal an und noch 8 oder 9 weitere Male.
Ich hatte alles falsch gemacht, aber endlich bekam ich es richtig hin,
Einfach Play, Stopp, Zurückspulen.
Ich schnappte mir den Film, den sie geschickt hatten, und schob ihn direkt rein,
Er hieß „Die X-Rated-Kritiken“.
Nun, ich habe Filme gesehen, in denen sich Leute küssen,
Aber so etwas hatte ich noch nie gesehen.
Oh Herr, ich hab den Video-Blues.

Also fuhr ich in die Stadt, um dem Videoclub beizutreten,
Und Freunde, ich habe Neuigkeiten für euch.
Fast alle Filme, die sie dort hatten,
Waren genau wie der, den sie mir auch geschickt hatten.
Ich kaufte Star Wars, Der weiße Hai, Poltergeist, Superman 1 und 2.
Als sie alles zusammenrechneten, hatte ich dreihundert Dollar ausgegeben.

Und über das Aufnehmen von Sachen aus der Glotze.
Es wäre wahrscheinlich besser für mich, wenn sie das Ding abholen würden,

Weil ich neue Filme zum Zeigen hatte.
Ich begann mit „Ein ausgekochtes Schlitzohr“ für sie,
Ich dachte, ich lass es langsam angehen.
Aber später am Abend, als die Zeit reif war,
Zeigte ich einen namens „Schwedische Art“.
Sie sagte: „Also, sowas hab ich mein Lebtag nicht...
Naja, ich schätze, das ist in Ordnung...
Hey! Ja, mach weiter, lass laufen!“

Ich hab den Video-Blues, worauf hab ich mich da eingelassen?
Dieses Ding hat meinen Platz eingenommen.
Sie will nicht kuscheln oder Liebe machen.
Sie sitzt nur da mit diesem komischen Ausdruck im Gesicht.
Ich war zu forsch, ich hätte es die ganze Zeit wissen müssen,
Worauf ich mich da einließ.
Sie gibt mir keinen Kuss, weil sie Angst hat, sie verpasst
Etwas aus der Filmkritik.
