Last night before I went to sleep,
My knees dropped to the floor.
I turned me eyes up to the sky,

And I put them in my song:

"Infamous Angel, come on home,

"Grab your things, a ticket′s waiting,

I heard Heaven′s choir rejoicing,
As the tears broke from my eyes.
And all at once it lifted,
The weight from my past life.
I found a pen and I left a note,
On the dresser drawer:
"Infamous Angel: she don′t live here anymore."

Then I hurried out the back door,
As quickly as I could.
I went flying down two flights of stairs,
′Til on the street I stood.
And there I took that final look,
At my old neighbourhood.
Then I ran down the street proclaiming:
"Angel: gone for good."

She grabbed her things and claimed the ticket,

Hier soir, avant de m'endormir,
Mes genoux ont touché le sol.
J'ai levé les yeux vers le ciel,
Et j'ai prié: "S'il te plaît, aide-moi, Seigneur.
"Tu sais que j'ai semé mes folles avoines,
"Et maintenant, le plaisir est fini."
Et puis j'ai entendu ces mots tendres,
Et je les ai mis dans ma chanson:

"Ange infâme, rentre chez toi,
"Vers quelqu'un qui t'aime,
"Et sait que tu avais besoin de vagabonder.
"Prends tes affaires, un billet t'attend,
"À la gare routière:

J'ai entendu le chœur du ciel se réjouir,
Alors que les larmes jaillissaient de mes yeux.
Et tout à coup, ça s'est envolé,
Le poids de ma vie passée.
J'ai trouvé un stylo et j'ai laissé un mot,
Sur le tiroir de la commode:
"Ange infâme: elle ne vit plus ici."

Alors je me suis précipitée vers la porte arrière,

J'ai dévalé deux volées d'escaliers,
Jusqu'à ce que je me retrouve dans la rue.
Et là, j'ai jeté un dernier regard,
À mon vieux quartier.
Puis j'ai couru dans la rue en proclamant:
"Ange: partie pour de bon."

Elle a pris ses affaires et réclamé le billet,
