I think a normal person would have been crushed
I really liked Prince
I stopped listening to him, mostly

But I remember when I was working in Philadelphia

We used to play Purple Rain until Dave got sick of it

That was also the day I lost my job
I had been saying I wanted to leave for a while
Then they gave me a reason to

I went to work
I was ready to tell everybody what happened to Prince
And they
They asked for my key and told me to leave
I worked there for 4 years

What was their reason?
They said they were afraid for me
I was sick
They meant they were afraid of me

They said if I wanted to come back to work I'd have to talk to their doctors
Now let me ask you this
If they were really worried about me
Why would they give me a reason for them to be worried

And on the day I was supposed to talk about Prince
That was the worst day of my life

Ça, ça a été ma pire journée.
Je pense qu'une personne normale aurait été anéantie.
J'aimais vraiment Prince.
J'ai arrêté de l'écouter, la plupart du temps.

Mais je me souviens quand je travaillais à Philadelphie...
Je l'écoutais pour trouver l'inspiration.
Cette fois où j'ai lancé mon chapeau de cowboy à ce sans-abri...
D'autres trucs aussi.
Mon premier concert.

On jouait Purple Rain jusqu'à ce que Dave en ait marre.
"Depuis que tu écoutes Prince", disait-il,
"tu te prends pour Prince."
Faux.

Je pensais être le prochain Prince.
C'est aussi le jour où j'ai perdu mon travail.
Ça faisait un moment que je disais que je voulais partir.
Et ils m'en ont donné une raison.

Je suis allé au travail.
J'étais prêt à raconter à tout le monde ce qui était arrivé à Prince.
Et ils...
Ils m'ont demandé ma clé et m'ont dit de partir.
J'ai travaillé là-bas pendant 4 ans.

Quelle était leur raison ?
Ils ont dit qu'ils avaient peur pour moi.
J'étais malade.
Ils voulaient dire qu'ils avaient peur de moi.

Ils ont dit que si je voulais revenir travailler, je devais parler à leurs médecins.
Maintenant, laisse-moi te demander ceci :
s'ils étaient vraiment inquiets pour moi,
pourquoi me donneraient-ils une raison de s'inquiéter ?

Et le jour où j'étais censé parler de Prince,
ça a été le pire jour de ma vie.
Mais je consacre ma vie à être Prince.

Je vais à New York.
Quoi, c'est bon.
Là-bas, tous les critiques t'adorent.
