Comme je faisais bouillir de l'eau
Pour me faire un café,
Sur ma table est tombée
Une Petite Fée

Elle a dit "Je viens de là-haut
Il faisait beau, l'air était doux
J'aime les humains comme ils sont
J'ai voulu voir et me pencher"

C'est comment, c'est froid ou c'est chaud?
C'est pointu, doux comme un pinson
Ou bien comme un disque rayé
Là-haut dans les nuées?

Mais elle a voulu s'en aller
Elle m'a montré son dos
Il y avait une simple clé
Que j'ai saisi, que j'ai tourné

Pendant que le café fumait
Près de ce pain beurré
Une hélice nous a porté
Vers l'azur éloigné

Savez-vous ce qu'il y a là-bas?
C'est un grand navire étoilé
Et peint de blanc, de haut en bas
Sur des flots de papier huilé

C'était un dimanche d'été
Et les yeux, je me suis frotté
Quelques moineaux à la fenêtre
Ont pris peur, se sont envolés

Tout au fond de la cafetière
Dormait sur le côté
Comme une petite éphémère
Aux ailes chiffonnées

Il faut toujours se rendormir
Sur mon lit, je me suis tourné
Un autre matin peut venir
Une petite chose ailée

Comme je faisais bouillir de l'eau
Pour me faire un café,

A Little Fairy

As I was boiling water
To make myself some coffee,
On my table fell
A Little Fairy

She said "I come from up there
The air was sweet, the weather was fair
I love humans as they are
I wanted to see and lean down"

What is it like, is it cold or is it hot?
Is it sharp or is it soft like a finch?
Or like a scratched record
Up there in the clouds?

But she wanted to leave
She showed me her back
There was a simple key
That I grasped and turned

While the coffee was steaming
Near my buttered bread
A propeller carried us
To the distant sky

Do you know what is up there?
It's a big starry ship
And painted white, from top to bottom
On waves of oiled paper

It was a summer Sunday
And I rubbed my eyes
Some sparrows at the window
Got scared and flew away

Deep inside the coffee pot
Slept on its side
Like a little mayfly
With crumpled wings

You always have to fall back asleep
I turned on my bed
Another morning may come
A little winged thing

As I was boiling water
To make myself some coffee,
