Expressions of Motion

I got interested in dance originally
When I saw a Lindsay Kemp production
Knowing that there was something more
I wanted to add my mu-, to my music
But not knowing what
And then it suddenly made sense
That movement was a perfect compliment to music
And that they're both expressions of emotional turmoil
Or whatever
So it made sense to put the two together really
And um
Again, especially the video medium
It's perfect to exploit in

Well, I think really the production thing
Has been something that
Has been gradually growing
As um, my crew has been moving on
And really the first album was the only album
Where I had no true say
Um, over the producer

And then gradually as I did album by album
I found that what I was having to do really
Was basically convince the producer
That what I wanted, what would work

So, um
It came to the stage where I wanted to
To go for producing myself
But wasn't totally brave enough
Um, so I went for co-production with my engineer, John Kelly

And um, that worked very well
And then um, writing songs for this last album
They sounded very different again
From the stuff that I'd done before
And I just felt it was something
I could handle as a producer
So I felt it was worth a try
And haven't got three checks done
And they sounded good
And everyone felt, good, go ahead

But I think it is really something
I've, I've wanted since the second album
Where I felt that
If I could just have more control over it
I could get more of what I want to be said on the album
And so far that has worked
So I hope it continues that way

I think there definitely has been a change
And I like to think that the change
Has sort of again moved with my music
Um, I think I still have problems especially in media
With the um, the mentioning of anything to do with sex
But I think it's a very positive thing
That people have started moving away from that with me
And having first start to take me
Much more seriously as an artist, um

J'avais envie d'ajouter ma mu-, à ma musique
Mais ne sachant pas quoi
Et puis soudainement, ça a eu du sens
Que le mouvement était un complément parfait à la musique
Et qu'ils sont tous les deux des expressions de la tourmente émotionnelle
Ou quoi que ce soit
Donc ça avait du sens de mettre les deux ensemble vraiment
Et euh
Encore une fois, surtout le support vidéo
C'est parfait pour exploiter en

Eh bien, je pense vraiment que la production
A été quelque chose qui
A grandi progressivement
Comme euh, mon équipe a évolué
Et vraiment le premier album était le seul album
Où je n'avais pas vraiment mon mot à dire
Euh, sur le producteur

Et puis progressivement, au fur et à mesure que j'ai fait album après album
J'ai trouvé que ce que j'avais à faire vraiment
C'était essentiellement de convaincre le producteur
Que ce que je voulais, ce qui fonctionnerait

Donc, euh
J'en suis arrivée au point où je voulais
Me produire moi-même
Mais je n'étais pas assez courageuse
Euh, donc j'ai opté pour une coproduction avec mon ingénieur, John Kelly

Et euh, ça a très bien marché
Et puis euh, en écrivant des chansons pour ce dernier album
Elles sonnaient très différentes encore
Des choses que j'avais faites avant
Et j'ai juste senti que c'était quelque chose
Que je pouvais gérer en tant que productrice
Donc j'ai pensé que ça valait la peine d'essayer
Et j'ai eu trois vérifications faites
Et elles sonnaient bien
Et tout le monde a trouvé ça bien, allez-y

Mais je pense que c'est vraiment quelque chose
J'ai, j'ai voulu depuis le deuxième album
Où j'ai senti que
Si je pouvais juste avoir plus de contrôle dessus
Je pourrais obtenir plus de ce que je veux dire sur l'album
Et jusqu'à présent, ça a marché
J'espère que ça continuera comme ça

Je pense qu'il y a certainement eu un changement
Et j'aime à penser que le changement
A en quelque sorte évolué avec ma musique
Euh, je pense que j'ai encore des problèmes, surtout dans les médias
Avec euh, la mention de quoi que ce soit qui ait trait au sexe
Mais je pense que c'est une chose très positive
Que les gens ont commencé à s'en éloigner avec moi
Et avoir commencé à me prendre
Beaucoup plus au sérieux en tant qu'artiste, euh
