Early Days

It was a three-piece that consisted of Del Palmer on bass
Brian Bath on Guitar and uh, Vic Smith who was the drummer
Yes, we did uh, clubs and pubs in the London area but this only was three months
No longer than that
It was just the experience I wanted at that point
I was looking for things that would take me further into where I wanted to go
Which was music the business, and I′d been training as a dancer
And this felt like the perfect stage really to uh, go into a live situation
I think uhm, it was probably the least experimental of all the albums
I'd written, say 200 songs
From which we choose... chose the 13 songs that went on there
And uh, it was recorded very quickly, there was very little experimentation
It was something... it had a lot of the forethought gone into it
The last album you do is quite often your favorite one because uh, that′s
The one you put the most energy into recently
But I think the fourth album had some very precious moments for me
So I would say that one for now, hm
I... I don't know what influences you
Between one and the other except your life really
You change with the environment
And my environment did change between the last album and this one
I moved out of the city and into the country
And I think those two energies are very apparent on both albums
The fourth album is very much an oppressed city atmosphere album
And this one... it's just released
It′s very much a free air elemental album
I was getting fed up with being in London, yeah
I don′t know about real need but um
I think it's a very good thing for me, I′m glad I did it
It certainly helped me relax as a person
No, I don't think you can say it drains your charisma
Because if anything uh, and I′m sure a lot of people would agree with me
A sense of depression and energy that you can get
From cities can be very, very productive to writing songs
But um, I found out I was getting too many distractions
That were stopping me having the time to
Concentrate on my writing
So rather than it being productive, it was getting in the way
But uh, certainly when I look out my window and there's trees and fields
I feel a lot happy than the concrete blocks out there

Oui, nous avons joué dans les clubs et les pubs de la région de Londres, mais cela n'a duré que trois mois
Pas plus que ça
C'était juste l'expérience que je voulais à ce moment-là
Je cherchais des choses qui m'emmèneraient plus loin dans ce que je voulais faire
À savoir la musique, et je m'étais formée comme danseuse
Et cela m'a semblé être la scène parfaite pour, euh, entrer dans une situation de live
Je pense que euh, c'était probablement le moins expérimental de tous les albums
J'avais écrit, disons 200 chansons
Parmi lesquelles nous avons choisi les 13 chansons qui y figurent
Et euh, ça a été enregistré très rapidement, il y a eu très peu d'expérimentation
C'était quelque chose... il y avait beaucoup de préméditation
Le dernier album que tu fais est souvent ton préféré parce que euh, c'est
Celui dans lequel tu as mis le plus d'énergie récemment
Mais je pense que le quatrième album a eu des moments très précieux pour moi
Donc je dirais celui-là pour l'instant, hm
Je... Je ne sais pas ce qui t'influence
Entre l'un et l'autre, à part ta vie en fait
Tu changes avec l'environnement
Et mon environnement a changé entre le dernier album et celui-ci
J'ai quitté la ville pour la campagne
Et je pense que ces deux énergies sont très apparentes sur les deux albums
Le quatrième album est en grande partie un album d'atmosphère de ville opprimée
Et celui-ci... ça vient de sortir
C'est en grande partie un album élémentaire d'air libre
J'étais fatiguée d'être à Londres, oui
Je ne sais pas si c'était un vrai besoin mais hum
Je pense que c'est une très bonne chose pour moi, je suis contente de l'avoir fait
Ça m'a certainement aidé à me détendre en tant que personne
Non, je ne pense pas qu'on puisse dire que ça te vide de ton charisme
Parce que si quelque chose euh, et je suis sûre que beaucoup de gens seraient d'accord avec moi
Un sentiment de dépression et d'énergie que l'on peut avoir
Dans les villes peut être très, très productif pour écrire des chansons
Mais hum, j'ai découvert que j'avais trop de distractions
Qui m'empêchaient d'avoir le temps de
Me concentrer sur mon écriture
Donc plutôt que d'être productif, ça me gênait
Mais euh, certainement que quand je regarde par ma fenêtre et que je vois des arbres et des champs
Je me sens beaucoup plus heureuse que face aux blocs de béton
