Out of bed just after one
Don't have time to catch the sun
All the bugs are at their business and the flowers are in bloom
We take a note of their perfume
Underneath the pale spectre of the moon
And I just stand there, waiting
Getting my sunbeams

Last night's pasta in a tub
Out the fridge for lunch and breakfast
But as I sit down to eat, I hear a song riding the breeze
"Happy birthday to Eloise"
Then mum and dad both let out a cheer
They're gonna throw a party another year
And I should take a walk for a bit

As I head up the road
A private ambulance zooms off into the distance
In silence, all the shops are closed
With rainbows painted on the glass
Covering notes that they hope to see us soon
But right now there's not much they can do
I dodge a jogger or two

Back at home, I'm playing a game
Rewatch repeats, I set a call up with a friend
A means towards an end, 'til we can meet again
"Hey, so, how are you doing?"
"I'm ok, you know, the usual kinda weird"

So we animate the cosmos stuck in our minds
Eventually their song heralds the dawn
I can't stifle my yawns
I make my bed up after I floss
And tuck in tightly
For a new day

Raus aus dem Bett erst nach eins
Keine Zeit, die Sonne einzufangen
Alle Insekten sind bei ihrer Arbeit und die Blumen blühen
Wir nehmen ihren Duft wahr
Unter dem blassen Gespenst des Mondes
Und ich stehe nur da, wartend
Meine Sonnenstrahlen tankend

Die Nudeln von gestern Abend in einem Behälter
Aus dem Kühlschrank für Mittag- und Frühstück
Doch als ich mich hinsetze, um zu essen, höre ich ein Lied, getragen von der Brise
"Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Eloise"
Dann jubeln Mama und Papa beide
Sie werden nächstes Jahr wieder eine Party schmeißen
Und ich sollte ein bisschen spazieren gehen

Als ich die Straße hochgehe
Saust ein privater Krankenwagen in die Ferne
In der Stille sind alle Läden geschlossen
Mit Regenbögen auf das Glas gemalt
Bedecken Zettel, auf denen steht, dass sie hoffen, uns bald wiederzusehen
Aber im Moment können sie nicht viel tun
Ich weiche einem oder zwei Joggern aus

Zurück zu Hause spiele ich ein Spiel
Schaue Wiederholungen an, vereinbare einen Anruf mit einer Freundin
Ein Mittel zum Zweck, bis wir uns wiedersehen können
"Hey, na, wie geht's dir so?"
"Mir geht's okay, weißt du, das übliche, irgendwie seltsam"

Also beleben wir den Kosmos, der in unseren Köpfen feststeckt
Schließlich kündigt ihr Gesang die Morgendämmerung an
Ich kann mein Gähnen nicht unterdrücken
Ich mache mein Bett, nachdem ich Zahnseide benutzt habe
Und kuschle mich fest ein
Für einen neuen Tag
