Et il n'a vécu que pour une chose, et rien de plus, il devait être le meilleur matador.
Et quand il a tué son premier taureau un dimanche ensoleillé,

Et comme sa célébrité grandissait, sa fortune grandissait aussi, mais il donnait une grande partie de cette fortune.
Parce qu'il savait que l'ennemi le plus ancien des autres, c'est la faim, chaque jour.
Et tant de fois, il a entendu : Que Dieu te bénisse, José.

Et les années ont passé, et José a dit : Je ne combattrai plus de grands taureaux.
Les jeunes hommes sont meilleurs que moi pour ça.
Le jeu du dimanche, avec son sang et sa mort à payer,

Et le lendemain matin, on l'a trouvé étendu sur le sol.
Il ne bougeait pas, il ne faisait aucun bruit.
