Last night we had Thanksgiving, first week of December

We almost watched it but I said, "Let's wait until Christmas time"
On Christmas, I religiously watch "The Shining"
Good nostalgia, I believe it's called
It makes me go back in time, makes me feel warm inside

But I've not been in the mood
To watch much of anything since I've been home
Except the Black Sabbath documentary that I fell asleep to
There's been so much, so much, so much on my mind
My brain is still foggy with jet lag and I've not unpacked my bags
Looking at them makes me think of the recent past

Opening my luggage makes me think of the tours
The airplanes, the dirty socks, the dirty T-shirts, and the ironing
But it also makes me think of the shows
That were sometimes spellbinding and other times soul-crushing
But they all blew together
Were they dreams or did they actually happen?
For three hours I'm heaven, I'm heaven or I'm in hell
And everyone's on trains and it's over

And I'm so happy to finally come home to you

I wake up every two hours and think
"Where am I? What country is this? What city am I in?
Is this Paris? Is this Madrid? Or London, or Dublin, or Rome?
This hotel room looks so big," I think, "Where is the bathroom?"
I stumble around and touching the walls, then I awaken
Just a tad more realized I'm home

And the December air is so cold
I get back into bed and lay next to your warm beautiful body

Bonne Nostalgie

Hier soir, nous avons fêté Thanksgiving, la première semaine de décembre.
Je ne suis rentré de tournée que la première semaine de décembre.
La dinde n'était pas prête avant 21 heures environ.
J'ai tellement mangé que je me suis allongé sur le canapé, dans un coma de tryptophane.
Le vent soufflait toujours dehors, l'odeur de la dinde.
Et le bruit du vent, le froid.
Tout ça m'a fait penser à "Shining".
On a failli le regarder, mais j'ai dit : "Attends Noël".
À Noël, je regarde religieusement "Shining".
C'est ce qu'on appelle la bonne nostalgie, je crois.
Elle me ramène dans le passé, me réchauffe le cœur.

Mais je n'ai pas eu envie
De regarder grand-chose depuis que je suis rentré.
Sauf le documentaire de Black Sabbath, devant lequel je me suis endormi.
J'avais tellement, tellement, tellement de choses en tête.
Mon cerveau est toujours embrumé par le décalage horaire et je n'ai pas encore défait mes valises.
Les voir me fait penser au passé récent.

Ouvrir mes bagages me fait penser aux tournées.
Les avions, les chaussettes sales, les T-shirts sales, le repassage.
Mais ça me fait aussi penser aux concerts.
Qui étaient parfois envoûtants et d'autres fois déchirants.
Mais ils se sont tous mélangés.
Étaient-ce des rêves ou est-ce que ça s'est vraiment passé ?
Pendant trois heures, je suis au paradis, au paradis ou en enfer.
Et tout le monde prend le train et c'est fini.

Et je suis si heureux d'être enfin rentré chez toi.
À ton amour, à ton corps, à ton cœur chaud.
Je me réveille toutes les deux heures et je me dis :
"Où suis-je ? Quel est ce pays ? Quelle est cette ville ?
Est-ce Paris ? Est-ce Madrid ? Ou Londres, ou Dublin, ou Rome ?
Cette chambre d'hôtel semble si grande", je pense, "Où est la salle de bain ?"
Je me promène en touchant les murs, puis je me réveille.
Un peu plus conscient que je suis chez moi.

Et l'air de décembre est si froid.
Je retourne au lit et je m'allonge près de ton beau corps chaud.
Je ne veux pas vieillir.
Quand je suis au lit avec toi, c'est là que je suis le plus heureux.
Et quand tu pars travailler le matin.
J'ai une angoisse de séparation.
Quand tu es à côté de moi, tu me calmes toujours.
Tu m'écoutes parler de toutes mes inquiétudes.
Tu m'aides à donner un sens à tout.
Mon Dieu, hier soir, le 4 décembre.
Tu m'as fait une dinde avec de la purée de pommes de terre et de la farce.
