Hey, it's Oscar again
I hope you're doing well

This month, I'm writing you from Amsterdam!
I knew for a long time I wanted to make a postcard from there
And for many reasons.

First, because it's really close to Paris
So it's not that expensive to travel to ahah
I'm also a big fan of really cute Instagram friendly cafés
And the city is full of that
But mostly, because I knew I wanted to make music with Simon - BLANKS
When my sister and I released our song nuit d'été on Youtube
Simon sent me a dm just a few weeks later saying he loved the song
I was already a big fan of his music at this time
So that was super cool.

We told each-other we had to meet and make music sometimes
And about 2 month ago it was the right time.
We managed to book a studio for a day with Simon in Amsterdam
And it was super fun
We actually talked for a few hours before making music
What I love about him is that he's doing everything independently
He manages his own YouTube channel
With more than a million subscribers
He writes and produce ever song he's releasing
He created his own label and management company
So he's managing other artists as well
Annnd he has a girlfriend
I mean, how is he even doing this ahah?

That was super cool to take time to talk about all of this together
Me being independent as well, making music from my bedroom
That is super inspiring
I'm really struggling with managing my time, working every single day
Falling asleep on my desk every night
Doing my best but still being late on everything
And Simon knew about that

So Simon set up this rule:
Having at least one free night a week
For his friends girlfriend
And shutting down his phone every night
2 or 3 hours before going to sleep
That way, he knows when to start and stop working
One last thing that I'll keep with me for the next months or years
Is that being independent means you can do whatever you want
But it doesn't mean you have do everything yourself
Knowing who to trust, and work with is key

Salut, c'est Oscar à nouveau
J'espère que tu vas bien

Ce mois-ci, je t'écris depuis Amsterdam !
Je savais depuis longtemps que je voulais faire une carte postale de là-bas
Et pour plusieurs raisons.

Premièrement, parce que c'est vraiment proche de Paris
Donc, ce n'est pas si cher de s'y rendre, ahah
Je suis aussi un grand fan des cafés vraiment mignons et instagrammables
Et la ville en est pleine
Mais surtout, parce que je savais que je voulais faire de la musique avec Simon - BLANKS
Quand ma sœur et moi avons sorti notre chanson nuit d'été sur Youtube
Simon m'a envoyé un dm quelques semaines plus tard pour me dire qu'il adorait la chanson
J'étais déjà un grand fan de sa musique à cette époque
Donc c'était super cool.

On s'est dit qu'on devait se rencontrer et faire de la musique un jour
Et il y a environ deux mois, c'était le bon moment.
On a réussi à réserver un studio pour une journée avec Simon à Amsterdam
Et c'était super amusant
On a en fait discuté pendant quelques heures avant de faire de la musique
Ce que j'aime chez lui, c'est qu'il fait tout de façon indépendante
Il gère sa propre chaîne Youtube
Avec plus d'un million d'abonnés
Il écrit et produit chaque chanson qu'il sort
Il a créé son propre label et sa propre société de management
Il gère donc aussi d'autres artistes
Et il a une copine
Je veux dire, comment fait-il tout ça, ahah ?

C'était vraiment cool de prendre le temps de parler de tout ça ensemble
Moi, étant indépendant aussi, en faisant de la musique depuis ma chambre
C'est super inspirant
J'ai vraiment du mal à gérer mon temps, je travaille tous les jours
Je m'endors sur mon bureau tous les soirs
Je fais de mon mieux mais je suis toujours en retard sur tout
Et Simon le savait

Alors Simon a établi cette règle :
Avoir au moins une soirée libre par semaine
Pour sa copine
Et éteindre son téléphone tous les soirs
Deux ou trois heures avant d'aller dormir
De cette façon, il sait quand commencer et arrêter de travailler
Une dernière chose que je garderai avec moi pendant les prochains mois ou années
C'est que l'indépendance signifie que vous pouvez faire ce que vous voulez
Mais cela ne signifie pas que vous devez tout faire vous-même
Savoir à qui faire confiance et avec qui travailler est essentiel
