Tengo mi casa de teja

Ya no se miran becerros

En esa casa de teja
Pasé mis primeros años
Y aunque existía la pobreza
Fui feliz con mis hermanos
No conocía la tristeza
Que hay en este mundo extraño

Ya no se oye el relinchido
Del caballo garañón
Ya tampopco hay sembradíos
Con maizales y frijol
El arado está vencido
Y apartado en un rincón

Ya no se ven las veredas
Que yo tanto recorrí
Las tapó muy bien la hierba
Nadie pasa por ahí
Pero lo que más me pesa
Es que yo también me fui

En esa casa de teja
Cuántas cosas me pasaron
Ya se ve bastante vieja

I have my tile-roofed house
Where the wind whistles through
Its walls are hollow
Battered by time
Its door has fallen down
But there's no one inside anymore

In the corral I had
There are no calves to be seen
And of that tree that was there
Only a few logs remain
That have become ruins
Where my memories dwell

In that tile-roofed house
I spent my early years
And although there was poverty
I was happy with my siblings
I knew no sadness
That exists in this strange world

The neighing is no longer heard
Of the stallion
Nor are there crops anymore
With corn and beans
The plow is broken
And set aside in a corner

The paths are no longer visible
That I traveled so much
The grass has covered them well
No one passes by there
But what weighs on me most
Is that I left too

In that tile-roofed house
How many things happened to me
It already looks quite old
But it has not collapsed
If my God lets me return
I will fix it with my own hands
