Als Maike knapp ein Jahr alt war

Als Maike in der Schule war
Da ging's ihr ziemlich gut
Nur wenn sie im Sport am Barren stand
Verlor sie fast den Mut
Besonders, wenn die Klasse sah
Wie sie sich dabei quält
Am liebsten wär sie abgehau′n
Und viel hat nicht gefehlt

Als Maike 17 Jahre war
War sie total verliebt
Sie glaubte, dass es nur noch
Rosa Wolken für sie gibt

Stürzte ihre Traumwelt ein
Sie war total am Boden
Und sie fühlte sich so klein

Doch sie stand auf und hat gedacht

Die Zeit ging schnell vorüber
Maike hat heut selbst ein Kind
Die Wohnung ist nicht groß
In der die zwei zu Hause sind
Und doch hat jeder Winkel hier
Sein eigenes Gesicht
So kuschelig und friedlich
Haben′s viele Kinder nicht

Und Maike denkt in mancher Nacht
An das, was sie als Kind so oft gedacht

I Can Do This

When Maike was barely a year old,
She could already stand tall.
She practiced tirelessly,
Walking along the wall.
Three steps she easily managed,
And almost the fourth too,
But she chose instead,
To land softly on her belly, boo-boo.

She looked around and laughed,
And perhaps for the first time thought,

Maybe a lot of strength,

Already accomplished something else."

When Maike was in school,
She was doing pretty well.
Only when she stood on the bars in gym class,
Did she almost lose her spell.
Especially when the class saw,
How she struggled there,
She would have loved to run away,
And it was almost a scare.

But she stood there and thought,
"I have to get through this, it's no laughing matter."

When Maike was 17 years old,
She was totally in love.
She believed that there were only
Pink clouds above.
But then, overnight,
Her dream world collapsed,
She was totally devastated,
And felt so small, perhaps.

But she stood up and thought,
"I guess I've just really woken up now."

Time passed quickly,
Maike has a child of her own today.
The apartment is not big,
Where the two of them stay.
And yet every corner here,
Has its own face,
So cozy and peaceful,
Many children don't have such grace.

And Maike thinks in many a night,
Of what she so often thought as a child,
