Ήταν άλλο ένα ψέμα
για ν' αντέξω τη φωτιά που γύρευε
μια βασίλισσα μ' ένα χάρτινο στέμμα;
εμένα, όμως, ο νους μου αλήτευε
παρέα με λέξεις και στοιχειά δροσάτα,
με πλανέματα κι αλλόκοτο φεγγάρι,
με λιγόστιγμα ονείρατα φευγάτα,
μια ακόμα ανάσα μπρος στην ασημένια άκρη,
μια όμορφη τρέλα και του γλιτωμού το χάζι
με μια κουβέντα σταράτη, παστρική,
μια ανατριχίλα που μου απλώνει το μαράζι
σαν λεπίδα κοφτερή και φονική.
Μπροστά στην ασημένια άκρη, όταν γυρίζω,
γλυκογεμίζω πάλι τα όνειρα μου,
τη πεθυμιά μου με τ' αγκάθια μου ξορκίζω,
μ' ένα ροδόξυλο τη διώχνω από μπροστά μου
κι αυτή γίνεται δυο στάλες φυλακή
κι ένα ψεύτικο δάκρυ
και κρύβεται στου χρόνου το φλασκί
δίπλα στην ασημένια άκρη.

In front of the silver edge, when I turn,
