Beyond the Wall of Sleep

Every now and then it seems to me
That there is greatest danger lying hidden in the depths of sleep ...
Saddest the wanderer ... who is travelling here
For far too often ..., or just longer than his mortal mind would bare.
From the other world he can never fully return
After the passing of a certain period of time,
As the forces of the other side are with him all the while,
Are surrounding his mind,
As they are now with him all the time.
Obscuring his mind, his spirit,
They chain him to this place, or state:
Mind and body will become lethargic, listless and inert,
And then, driven by his wounded soul,
He will be longing for nothing more ... except the end itself ...-
For darkness ... and for death.

Il me semble parfois
Que le plus grand danger se cache dans les profondeurs du sommeil ...
Le plus triste est le voyageur ... qui voyage ici
Trop souvent ..., ou juste plus longtemps ... que son esprit mortel ne le supporterait.
Il ne peut jamais revenir complètement de l'autre monde
Après un certain temps,
Comme les forces de l'autre côté sont avec lui tout le temps,
Entourent son esprit,
Comme elles sont maintenant avec lui tout le temps.
Obscurcissant son esprit, son âme,
Ils l'enchaînent à cet endroit, ou à cet état :
L'esprit et le corps deviendront léthargiques, apathiques et inertes,
Et puis, poussé par son âme blessée,
Il ne désirera plus rien ... sauf la fin elle-même ...-
Pour les ténèbres ... et pour la mort.
