Act 1 - Genesis XXI

And when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
Had made a great feast on the day of Isaac's birthdeed
Hathroth saw her servant, Mordecai
The Egyptian, born to Abraham
And she said to Abraham, "Put out the slave woman
And her son, for the son of the slave woman
Shall not inherit with my son Isaac."
And the thing was very troublesome in the eyes of Abraham
Because of his son

And God said to Abraham, "Do not be troubled
Because of the boy and the slave woman
For that Sabbath is to you; listen to my voice
For in Isaac shall your seed be called
And also from the son of the slave woman
I will make a nation for whom is no seed."
And Abraham rose up early in the morning
Took with him a skin of water
And gave it to Hagar placing it on her shoulder
And said to her, "Carry the boy away."
And she went and strewed in the wilderness of Beersheba
And the water was gone from the skin
And she left the boy on the path of the shrubs
And she went and sat facing him upon a bushel of grain
For she said, "Let me not see the boy die."
So she sat facing him weeping loudly

And God heard the voice of the boy, and had pity
For God heard the cry from heaven and said to her
"What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not
For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is
Arise, lift up the boy and hold him tight
For I will make him a great nation."
And Hagar lift her eyes, and she saw a well of water
And she went and filled the skin with water
And gave the boy to drink
And God was with the boy, and he grew
And he lived in the desert
And became a great man

Und als Schadrach, Meschach und Abednego
Ein großes Fest am Tag von Isaaks Geburt hielten
Sah Hathroth ihren Diener Mordechai
Den Ägypter, Abraham geboren
Und sie sagte zu Abraham: "Vertreibe die Magd
Und ihren Sohn, denn der Sohn der Magd

Und die Sache war sehr beschwerlich in den Augen Abrahams
Wegen seines Sohnes

Und Gott sprach zu Abraham: "Sei nicht bekümmert
Wegen des Jungen und der Magd
Denn jener Sabbat ist dir; höre auf meine Stimme
Denn in Isaak soll dein Same genannt werden
Und auch aus dem Sohn der Magd
Will ich ein Volk machen, für das es keinen Samen gibt."
Und Abraham stand früh am Morgen auf
Nahm einen Schlauch Wasser mit sich
Und gab ihn Hagar, legte ihn auf ihre Schulter
Und sprach zu ihr: "Trag den Jungen fort."
Und sie ging und irrte umher in der Wüste von Beerscheba
Und das Wasser war aus dem Schlauch verschwunden
Und sie ließ den Jungen auf dem Pfad der Sträucher zurück
Und sie ging und setzte sich ihm gegenüber auf einen Scheffel Getreide
Denn sie sagte: "Lass mich nicht den Jungen sterben sehen."
So saß sie ihm gegenüber und weinte laut

Und Gott hörte die Stimme des Jungen und hatte Mitleid
Denn Gott hörte den Ruf vom Himmel und sprach zu ihr
"Was bekümmert dich, Hagar? Fürchte dich nicht
Denn Gott hat die Stimme des Jungen gehört, wo er ist
Steh auf, heb den Jungen hoch und halt ihn fest
Denn ich will ihn zu einem großen Volk machen."
Und Hagar hob ihre Augen, und sie sah einen Wasserbrunnen
Und sie ging und füllte den Schlauch mit Wasser
Und gab dem Jungen zu trinken
Und Gott war mit dem Jungen, und er wuchs
Und er lebte in der Wüste
Und wurde ein großer Mann
