This story I heard told,
An old widowed woman,
With no place to call home, my love.

So as not to live alone,
She decided to go and seek,
The house of her own son,
To find some shelter, dear.

Her son was married,
And had a good heart, true,
He was the father of a little boy,
Whom he adored, it's true.

For the old woman, that grandson,
Was her distraction, her light,
And the grandson for his grandma,

The grandma and the grandson,
Never left each other's side,
But the daughter-in-law, being wicked,
Disliked the old woman, she couldn't hide.

And seeing that her little son,
Wouldn't leave his grandma's embrace,
The hatred for her mother-in-law,

This wicked daughter-in-law,
Had already made up her mind,
To end her mother-in-law's life,
But a way she couldn't find.

One day she had an idea,
That she thought was just right,
To kill the poor old woman,
She put poison in her food that night.

When the old woman went to eat,
Her little grandson appeared,
And as was her custom,
She gave him the food first, my dear.

This wicked daughter-in-law,
Received her punishment, it's true,
Instead of killing her mother-in-law,
It was her son who died, boo hoo.
