Lyrics and translation Tata Barahona - Desperté

Desperté
I Awoke
Desperté, me miré al espejo
I awoke, I gazed into the mirror,
Y me vi destrozado y bello
And I saw myself shattered and beautiful,
Desperté y me vi desnudo
I awoke and saw myself naked,
Desperté y quedé perplejo
I awoke and was utterly bewildered,
Only to find myself the reflection of whom I yearned to be.
Desperté y al abrir los ojos
I awoke, and on opening my eyes,
Descubrí que no estaba solo
I discovered that I was not alone,
Encontré a cientos de miles
I stumbled upon hundreds of thousands,
A millones que marchaban
Upon millions who marched,
Que cantaban y peleaban y empezábanse a querer.
Who sang, and fought, and began to love one another.
Y formé la primera línea
And thus, I formed the first line,
En mis escritos con los versos
In my writings, with the verses,
Of those who have nothing left to lose,
Más atrás se entonaron cantos
Further behind, began the songs,
Que cantaban de victorias
That sang of victories,
Of the fallen, the one-eyed, the blind, we will never forget them.
Desperté en medio de nubes
I awoke amidst the clouds,
Desperté se fue el arcoíris
I awoke, the rainbow was gone,
Desperté y tomé despacio
I awoke and slowly embraced,
Las heridas que me hicieron
The wounds that had been inflicted upon me,
And with others who were grievously injured, I healed my wounds.
Desperté, me miré al espejo
I awoke, I gazed into the mirror,
Y me vi destrozado y bello
And I saw myself shattered and beautiful,
Descubrí que no estaba solo
I discovered that I was not alone,
Encontré a cientos de miles
I stumbled upon hundreds of thousands,
Que cantaban y peleaban y empezábanse a querer
Who sang, and fought, and began to love one another.
Y escribió la primera línea
And she penned the first line,
En los escritos, una historia
In the scriptures, a story,
With those who have nothing left to lose.
Escribió la primera línea
She penned the first line,
De esta historia que hablará
Of this tale that shall tell,
Of a beautiful people who discovered freedom
Y también cantaremos cantos
And we shall sing songs,
Que hablarán de las victorias
That shall speak of victories,
Of the fallen, the one-eyed, the blind, we will never forget them.
(Of the fallen, the one-eyed, the blind, we will never forget them.)
Of the fallen, the one-eyed, the blind, we will never forget them.
(Of the fallen, the one-eyed, the blind, we will never forget them.)
