Dear Boss (Bricks)

Dear Boss I write this note to you to tell you of my plight
And at the time of writing I am not a pretty sight
Me body is all black and blue and me face a deadly gray
And I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today
I was workin' on the 14th floor; some bricks I had to clear
And throwin' 'em down from such a height was not a good idea
The foreman wasn't very pleased, he bein' an awful sod
And he said I'd have to take them down the ladder in me hod
Now shiftin' all those bricks by hand it seemed so awful slow
So I hoisted up a barrel and secured a rope below
But in my haste to do the job I was too blind to see
That a barrel full of buildin' bricks was heaveier than me
Now when I came down I cut the rope and the barrel fell like lead
And clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead
I shot up like a rocket and to my dismay I found
That halfways up I met the bloody barrel comin' down
Now the barrel broke me shoulder as to the ground it sped
And when I reached the top I struck the pulley with me head
I still clung on though numbed and shocked from this almighty blow
And the barrel spilled out half the bricks 14 floors below
Now when the bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor
I then outweighed the barrel and I started down once more
Still clinging tightly to the rope I headed for the ground
And I fell among the broken bricks that were all scatter'd 'round
As I lay there moaning on the floor sure I thought I'd passed the worst
Then the barrel struck the pulley wheel and didn't the bottom burst
A shower of bricks came down on me sure I haven't got a hope
And as I was losing consciousness... I let go the bloody rope
Now the barrel it being heavier it started down once more
And it landed right across me as I lay there on the floor
I broke three ribs and my left arm and I can only say
That I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today

Mon cher patron, je t'écris cette lettre pour te parler de mon sort
Et au moment où je t'écris, je ne suis pas un beau spectacle
Mon corps est tout bleu et noir, et mon visage d'un gris mortel
Et j'espère que tu comprendras pourquoi Paddy n'est pas au travail aujourd'hui
Je travaillais au 14ème étage ; j'avais des briques à enlever
Et les jeter du haut d'une telle hauteur n'était pas une bonne idée
Le contremaître n'était pas très content, étant un vrai salaud
Et il a dit que je devrais les descendre par l'échelle dans ma brouette
Maintenant, déplacer toutes ces briques à la main semblait tellement lent
Alors j'ai hissé un baril et j'ai fixé une corde en dessous
Mais dans ma hâte de faire le travail, j'étais trop aveugle pour voir
Qu'un baril plein de briques de construction était plus lourd que moi
Maintenant, quand je suis descendu, j'ai coupé la corde et le baril est tombé comme du plomb
Et en m'accrochant fermement à la corde, j'ai commencé à remonter
Je suis monté comme une fusée et à mon grand désespoir j'ai trouvé
Qu'à mi-chemin, j'ai rencontré le foutu baril qui descendait
Maintenant, le baril m'a brisé l'épaule alors qu'il se précipitait vers le sol
Et quand j'ai atteint le sommet, j'ai frappé la poulie avec la tête
Je me suis accroché malgré tout, engourdi et choqué par ce coup terrible
Et le baril a renversé la moitié des briques 14 étages plus bas
Maintenant, quand les briques sont tombées du baril sur le sol
Je pesais alors plus lourd que le baril et j'ai recommencé à descendre
Toujours accroché fermement à la corde, je me dirigeais vers le sol
Et je suis tombé parmi les briques cassées qui étaient éparpillées partout
Alors que je gisais là en gémissant sur le sol, je pensais vraiment que le pire était passé
Puis le baril a frappé la poulie et le fond n'a-t-il pas éclaté ?
Une pluie de briques est tombée sur moi, je n'avais plus aucun espoir
Et alors que je perdais conscience... j'ai lâché la foutue corde
Maintenant, le baril étant plus lourd, il a recommencé à descendre
Et il s'est retrouvé en travers de moi alors que je gisais là sur le sol
J'ai cassé trois côtes et mon bras gauche, et je ne peux que dire
J'espère que tu comprendras pourquoi Paddy n'est pas au travail aujourd'hui
