To some it's just an emblem a formality.
It's a symbol that's been used soo frequently.
Many blaspheme and despise.
Though it's ancient, it abides.
A shrine to death that stands for life to me.

There was a cross made for the Son at Calvary.
Two pieces of rough timber on a hill.
Through his hands and through his feet,
He took the nails for you and me.
Angels watched as he died for the lost.
Though he could of walked away he chose the cross.

You see why this old emblem is so dear to me.
It stood for suffering, yet it brought us peace.
It bridged the gap for me.
Offered cleansing for our sins.

God forbide that I should ever let my memory fade.
But forever keep the cross in view for that's where I was saved.

Pour certains, ce n'est qu'un emblème, une formalité.
C'est un symbole qui a été utilisé si fréquemment.
Beaucoup blasphèment et méprisent.
Bien qu'il soit ancien, il persiste.
Un sanctuaire de la mort qui représente la vie pour moi.

Il y avait une croix faite pour le Fils au Calvaire.
Deux morceaux de bois brut sur une colline.
Par ses mains et par ses pieds,
Il a pris les clous pour toi et pour moi.
Les anges ont regardé alors qu'il mourait pour les perdus.
Bien qu'il aurait pu s'enfuir, il a choisi la croix.

Tu comprends pourquoi cet ancien emblème est si cher à mes yeux.
Il représentait la souffrance, mais il nous a apporté la paix.
Il a comblé le fossé pour moi.
Il a offert la purification de nos péchés.

Dieu me garde de jamais laisser mon souvenir s'effacer.
Mais je garderai toujours la croix en vue car c'est là que j'ai été sauvé.
