And talking to Thomas about writing all these songs
The next one is "Growing Up"
And I feel like you've had a couple of songs sort of in this same vein
On previous albums, but I love 'em
Tell us about "Growing Up"

"Growing Up" was actually written on the same trip as "Want It Again"
I think we actually wrote those songs back to back, which was crazy
But my buddy, Matt Dragstrem, had this kinda old school country track looping
And we just started throwing out titles
I mean, that's-that's what we do in these sessions
Is people just sit on their phones and be like
"I got this title called whatever and I got this other title"
And I'd had this title called "Growing Up" in my phone for about a year
'Cause I feel like I did a lot of growing up in 2019
And especially in 2020, I feel like I grew up a ton

And so kinda one of those, nostalgic looking back of going, I used to be this way
And then it's like every couple years
There were certain things in my life that would change
So like the hook on the first chorus is like
"Just a little less Jack in my cup, man, I guess I'm growing up"
Second one is "Just a little less jack up my truck, man, I guess I'm growing up"
And it seems like every couple years I look back at my life, and I'm like
"Man, I used to kinda do this and think this was me being a mature adult"
And then you look back at yourself two years ago and where you're at today
And you're kinda like, "Dang, I've done a lot of growing"

And uh, this is one of my favorite tracks on the record
I love the way that we produced it
And I just love the way that it all came together so fluid
It kinda reminds of "Sixteen" a little bit
Which is one of my favorite tracks on my two records ago
But yeah, I love that song

"Growing Up" wurde tatsächlich auf derselben Reise geschrieben wie "Want It Again"
Ich glaube, wir haben diese Songs tatsächlich direkt hintereinander geschrieben, was verrückt war
Aber mein Kumpel, Matt Dragstrem, hatte diesen Old-School-Country-Track in Dauerschleife

Die Leute sitzen einfach an ihren Handys und sagen
"Ich habe diesen Titel namens was auch immer und ich habe diesen anderen Titel"
Und ich hatte diesen Titel namens "Growing Up" schon seit etwa einem Jahr in meinem Handy
Weil ich das Gefühl habe, dass ich 2019 viel erwachsen geworden bin
Und besonders 2020, ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich enorm gewachsen bin

Und so ist es eine Art nostalgischer Rückblick, bei dem man sagt: Ich war früher so
Und dann ist es so, dass sich alle paar Jahre
bestimmte Dinge in meinem Leben ändern würden
Also, der Refrain im ersten Refrain ist wie
"Nur ein bisschen weniger Jack in meinem Becher, Mann, ich schätze, ich werde erwachsen"
Der zweite ist "Nur ein bisschen weniger meinen Truck aufbocken, Mann, ich schätze, ich werde erwachsen"
Und es scheint, als würde ich alle paar Jahre auf mein Leben zurückblicken und denken
"Mann, ich habe das früher irgendwie gemacht und dachte, das wäre ich als erwachsener Mann"
Und dann schaust du auf dich selbst vor zwei Jahren zurück und wo du heute bist
Und du denkst dir: "Verdammt, ich bin ganz schön gewachsen"

Und äh, das ist einer meiner Lieblingstracks auf der Platte
Ich liebe die Art, wie wir es produziert haben
Und ich liebe einfach die Art, wie alles so flüssig zusammenkam
Es erinnert mich ein bisschen an "Sixteen"
