Lyrics and translation Zigfrīds Muktupāvels - Vecās Grāmatas

Vecās Grāmatas
Old Books
Kad manam domu kuģim nav vairs masta
When my ship of thought no longer has a mast
Un velti gaidu, kad tas ostā stās,
And I wait in vain for it to dock,
Tad redzu vēl, ka zeme neatrasta
Then I still see that the undiscovered land
Man pretī staro vecās grāmatās.
Shines towards me in old books.
Tur lapas ir, kas pazīst dzīves lāstu
There are pages there that know the curse of life
Tās spēku pagurušā sirdī lej,
They pour strength into the weary heart,
Bet dziesmas zin, cik mīļi saule glāsta
But songs know how lovingly the sun caresses
Un ļaunāk vēl ielās ļaudis smej.
And even more wickedly than people laugh in the streets.
No sāpēm pasakās es mieru smeļu:
From pain, I draw peace in fairy tales:
Tām zināms viss, kas ir, kas būs un bija,
They know everything that is, was, and will be,
Ka daudz šai pasaulē ir gaišu ceļu
That there are many bright paths in this world
Un daudz bij nakšu, kurās zvaigznes lija,
And there have been many nights in which stars fell,
Ka kādreiz aizmirsta būs lielā vienaldzība
That the great indifference will once be forgotten
Un prieka vilnis skries caur dzīslām silts,
And a wave of joy will run warmly through your veins,
Kad sirdis vienos lielā dzīvotgriba,
When hearts are united by a great will to live,
Šai vecā pasaulē, kur vēl pat smaids ir vilts.
In this old world, where there is still deceit, even in a smile.
