Lays Al Ghreeb
Lays Al Ghreeb (The Stranger)
لَيْسَ
الغَريبُ
غَريبَ
الشَّأمِ
واليَمَنِ
The
stranger
isn't
the
stranger
of
Syria
or
Yemen,
my
love,
إِنَّ
الغَريبَ
غَريبُ
اللَّحدِ
والكَفَنِ
The
true
stranger
is
the
stranger
of
the
grave
and
shroud.
إِنَّ
الغَريِبَ
لَهُ
حَقٌّ
لِغُرْبَتـِهِ
The
stranger
has
a
right,
due
to
his
strangeness,
على
الْمُقيمينَ
في
الأَوطــانِ
والسَّكَنِ
Upon
those
residing
in
homelands
and
dwellings.
لا
تَنْهَرَنَّ
غَريبًا
حَالَ
غُرْبَته
Don't
rebuke
a
stranger
in
his
state
of
strangeness,
dear,
الدَّهْرُ
يَنْهَرَهُ
بالذُّلِ
والمِحَنِ
Time
rebukes
him
with
humiliation
and
trials.
سَفَري
بَعيدٌ
وَزادي
لَنْ
يُبَلِّغَنـي
My
journey
is
long,
and
my
provisions
won't
sustain
me,
وَقُوَّتي
ضَعُفَتْ
والمـوتُ
يَطلُبُنـي
My
strength
has
weakened,
and
death
seeks
me.
وَلي
بَقايــا
ذُنوبٍ
لَسْتُ
أَعْلَمُها
I
have
remnants
of
sins
I
don't
know,
my
sweet,
الله
يَعْلَمُهــا
في
السِّرِ
والعَلَنِ
God
knows
them
in
secret
and
openly.
مـَا
أَحْلَمَ
اللهَ
عَني
حَيْثُ
أَمْهَلَني
How
merciful
is
God
to
me,
for
He
gives
me
respite,
وقَدْ
تَمـادَيْتُ
في
ذَنْبي
ويَسْتُرُنِي
While
I
persist
in
my
sin,
and
He
conceals
me.
تَمُرُّ
سـاعـاتُ
أَيّـَامي
بِلا
نَدَمٍ
The
hours
of
my
days
pass
without
regret,
ولا
بُكاءٍ
وَلاخَـوْفٍ
ولا
حـَزَنِ
Without
weeping,
fear,
or
sorrow,
my
dear.
أَنَـا
الَّذِي
أُغْلِقُ
الأَبْوابَ
I
am
the
one
who
shuts
the
doors
diligently,
مُجْتَهِداً
عَلى
المعاصِي
وَعَيْنُ
اللهِ
تَنْظُرُنـي
Upon
sins,
while
the
eye
of
God
watches
me.
يَـا
زَلَّةً
كُتِبَتْ
في
غَفْلَةٍ
ذَهَبَتْ
Oh,
slip
committed
in
heedlessness,
gone
by,
يَـا
حَسْرَةً
بَقِيَتْ
في
القَلبِ
تُحْرِقُني
Oh,
regret
that
remains
in
the
heart,
burning
me.
دَعْني
أَنُوحُ
عَلى
نَفْسي
وَأَنْدِبُـهـا
Let
me
lament
myself
and
mourn
for
her,
وَأَقْطَعُ
الدَّهْرَ
بِالتَّذْكِيـرِ
وَالحَزَنِ
And
cut
through
time
with
remembrance
and
sorrow,
my
love.
دَعْ
عَنْكَ
عَذْلِيَ
يَا
مَنْ
كانَ
يَعْذُلُني
Leave
your
reproach,
oh
you
who
reproach
me,
dear,
لَوْ
كُنْتَ
تَعْلَمُ
ما
بِي
كُنْتَ
تَعْذِرُنِي
If
you
knew
what's
within
me,
you
would
excuse
me.
دَعْني
أَسِـــحُّ
دُمُــــوعاً
لا
انْقِطَاعَ
لَهَا
Let
me
shed
endless
tears,
فَهَـلْ
عَسَــــى
عَبْرَةٌ
مِنْهَا
تُخَلِّـــصُني
Perhaps
a
tear
from
them
will
deliver
me.
كَأَنَّنِي
بَينَ
جل
الأَهلِ
مُنطَرِحاً
As
if
I
am
lying
among
my
family,
عَلى
الفِراشِ
وَأَيْديهِمْ
تُقَلِّبُني
On
the
bed,
and
their
hands
are
turning
me.
وَ
قَدْ
تَجَمَّعَ
حَوْلي
مَنْ
يَنوحُ
و
And
those
who
mourn
and
مَنْ
يَبْكي
عَلَيَّ
و
يَنْعاني
و
يَنْدُبُني
Those
who
weep
over
me,
suffer
for
me,
and
lament
me
have
gathered
around
me.
وَ
قَدْ
أَتَوْا
بِطَبيبٍ
كَيْ
يُعالِجَني
And
they
brought
a
doctor
to
treat
me,
وَلَمْ
أَرَ
الطِّبَّ
هذا
اليومَ
يَنْفَعُني
But
I
didn't
see
medicine
benefit
me
today.
واشَتد
نَزْعِي
وَصَار
المَوتُ
يَجْذِبُها
My
agony
intensified,
and
death
pulled,
مِن
كُلِّ
عِرْقٍ
بِلا
رِفقٍ
ولا
هَوَنِ
From
every
vein,
without
gentleness
or
ease.
واستَخْرَجَ
الرُّوحَ
مِني
في
And
extracted
the
soul
from
me
in
its
rattle,
تَغَرْغُرِها
وصارَ
رِيقي
مَريراً
حِينَ
غَرْغَرَني
And
my
saliva
became
bitter
when
it
gargled
me.
وَغَمَّضُوني
وَراحَ
الكُلُّ
وانْصَرَفوا
They
closed
my
eyes,
and
everyone
left
and
departed,
بَعْدَ
الإِياسِ
وَجَدُّوا
في
شِرَا
الكَفَنِ
After
despair,
they
exerted
themselves
in
preparing
the
shroud.
وَقامَ
مَنْ
كانَ
حِبُّ
النّاسِ
في
عَجَلٍ
And
he
who
loved
people
rose
quickly,
نَحْوَ
المُغَسِّلِ
يَأْتيني
يُغَسِّلُني
Toward
the
washer,
coming
to
wash
me.
وَقالَ
يا
قَوْمِ
نَبْغِي
غاسِلاً
حَذِقاً
And
he
said,
"O
people,
we
need
a
skilled
washer,"
حُراً
أَديبًا
أَريباً
عَارِفاً
فَطِنِ
A
free,
polite,
clever,
and
perceptive
one.
فَجاءَني
رَجُلٌ
مِنْهُمْ
فَجَرَّدَني
So
a
man
came
to
me
and
undressed
me,
مِنَ
الثِّيابِ
وَأَعْرَاني
وأَفْرَدَني
Of
my
clothes,
and
stripped
me
bare,
and
laid
me
out.
وَأَوْدَعوني
عَلى
الأَلْواحِ
مُنْطَرِحاً
And
they
placed
me
on
the
planks,
lying
down,
وَصارَ
فَوْقي
خَرِيرُ
الماءِ
يُنْظِفُني
And
the
sound
of
water
flowing
over
me,
cleansing
me.
وَأَسْكَبَ
الماءَ
مِنْ
فَوقي
وَغَسَّلَني
And
he
poured
water
over
me
and
washed
me,
غُسْلاً
ثَلاثاً
وَنَادَى
القَوْمَ
بِالكَفَنِ
Three
washes,
and
called
the
people
for
the
shroud.
وَأَلْبَسُوني
ثِياباً
لا
كِمامَ
لها
And
they
clothed
me
in
garments
without
sleeves,
وَصارَ
زَادي
حَنُوطِي
حينَ
حَنَّطَني
And
my
provision
became
my
embalming
when
they
embalmed
me.
وأَخْرَجوني
مِنَ
الدُّنيا
فَوا
أَسَفاً
And
they
took
me
out
of
the
world,
oh,
what
a
regret,
عَلى
رَحِيلٍ
بِلا
زادٍ
يُبَلِّغُني
For
a
departure
without
provisions
to
sustain
me.
وَحَمَّلوني
على
الأْكتافِ
أَربَعَةٌ
And
four
men
carried
me
on
their
shoulders,
مِنَ
الرِّجالِ
وَخَلْفِي
مَنْ
يُشَيِّعُني
And
behind
me
those
who
accompanied
me.
وَقَدَّموني
إِلى
المحرابِ
وانصَرَفوا
And
they
brought
me
to
the
prayer
niche
and
departed,
خَلْفَ
الإِمامِ
فَصَلَّى
ثُمَّ
وَدَّعَني
Behind
the
Imam,
he
prayed
then
bid
me
farewell.
صَلَّوْا
عَلَيَّ
صَلاةً
لا
رُكوعَ
لها
They
prayed
over
me
a
prayer
without
bowing,
ولا
سُجودَ
لَعَلَّ
اللهَ
يَرْحَمُني
Nor
prostration,
perhaps
God
will
have
mercy
on
me.
وَأَنْزَلوني
إلى
قَبري
على
مَهَلٍ
And
they
lowered
me
into
my
grave
slowly,
وَقَدَّمُوا
واحِداً
مِنهم
يُلَحِّدُني
And
they
put
forward
one
of
them
to
bury
me.
وَكَشَّفَ
الثّوْبَ
عَن
وَجْهي
لِيَنْظُرَني
And
he
unveiled
the
cloth
from
my
face
to
look
at
me,
وَأَسْبَلَ
الدَّمْعَ
مِنْ
عَيْنيهِ
أَغْرَقَني
And
shed
tears
from
his
eyes,
drowning
me.
فَقامَ
مُحتَرِماً
بِالعَزْمِ
مُشْتَمِلاً
So
he
stood
respectfully,
with
determination,
wrapped,
وَصَفَّفَ
اللَّبْنَ
مِنْ
فَوْقِي
وفارَقَني
And
arranged
the
bricks
above
me,
and
left
me.
وقَالَ
هُلُّوا
عليه
التُّرْبَ
واغْتَنِموا
And
he
said,
"Pour
the
soil
on
him
and
seize
حُسْنَ
الثَّوابِ
مِنَ
الرَّحمنِ
ذِي
المِنَنِ
The
good
reward
from
the
Most
Gracious,
the
Bestower
of
Blessings."
في
ظُلْمَةِ
القبرِ
لا
أُمٌّ
هناك
ولا
In
the
darkness
of
the
grave,
there
is
no
mother
there,
nor
أَبٌ
شَفيقٌ
ولا
أَخٌ
يُؤَنِّسُني
A
compassionate
father,
nor
a
brother
to
console
me.
وَهالَني
صُورَةً
في
العينِ
إِذْ
نَظَرَتْ
And
a
sight
horrified
me
when
it
appeared,
مِنْ
هَوْلِ
مَطْلَعِ
ما
قَدْ
كان
أَدهَشَني
From
the
horror
of
the
appearance
of
what
had
astonished
me.
مِنْ
مُنكَرٍ
ونكيرٍ
ما
أَقولُ
لهم
Of
Munkar
and
Nakir,
what
shall
I
say
to
them?
قَدْ
هالَني
أَمْرُهُمْ
جِداً
فَأَفْزَعَني
Their
matter
has
terrified
me
greatly
and
frightened
me.
وَأَقْعَدوني
وَجَدُّوا
في
سُؤالِهمُ
And
they
sat
me
down
and
persisted
in
their
questioning,
مَالِي
سِوَاكَ
إِلهي
مَنْ
يُخَلِّصُنِي
I
have
none
but
You,
my
God,
who
can
save
me.
فَامْنُنْ
عَلَيَّ
بِعَفْوٍ
مِنك
يا
أَمَلي
So
bestow
upon
me
Your
forgiveness,
oh
my
hope,
فَإِنَّني
مُوثَقٌ
بِالذَّنْبِ
مُرْتَهنِ
For
I
am
bound
by
sin,
pledged.
تَقاسمَ
الأهْلُ
مالي
بعدما
انْصَرَفُوا
My
family
divided
my
wealth
after
they
departed,
وَصَارَ
وِزْرِي
عَلى
ظَهْرِي
فَأَثْقَلَني
And
my
burden
was
placed
on
my
back,
weighing
me
down.
واستَبْدَلَتْ
زَوجَتي
بَعْلاً
لها
بَدَلا
And
my
wife
took
another
husband
in
my
place,
وَحَكَّمَتْهُ
على
الأَمْوَالِ
والسَّكَنِ
And
gave
him
authority
over
the
wealth
and
dwelling.
وَصَيَّرَتْ
وَلَدي
عَبْداً
ليخدمها
And
she
made
my
son
a
slave
to
serve
her,
وَصَارَ
مَالي
لهم
حلاً
بِلا
ثَمَنِ
And
my
wealth
became
a
solution
for
them
without
cost.
فَلا
تَغُرَّنَّكَ
الدُّنْيا
وَزِينَتُها
So
don't
be
deceived
by
the
world
and
its
adornment,
وانْظُرْ
إلى
فِعْلِها
في
الأَهْلِ
والوَطَنِ
And
look
at
its
effect
on
family
and
homeland.
وانْظُرْ
إِلى
مَنْ
حَوَى
الدُّنْيا
بِأَجْمَعِها
And
look
at
those
who
possessed
the
whole
world,
هَلْ
رَاحَ
مِنْها
بِغَيْرِ
الحَنْطِ
والكَفَنِ
Did
they
depart
from
it
without
embalming
and
shroud?
خُذِ
القَناعَةَ
مِنْ
دُنْيَاك
وارْضَ
بِها
Take
contentment
from
your
world
and
be
satisfied
with
it,
لَوْ
لم
يَكُنْ
لَكَ
إِلا
رَاحَةُ
البَدَنِ
Even
if
you
have
nothing
but
comfort
of
the
body.
يَا
زَارِعَ
الخَيْرِ
تحصُدْ
بَعْدَهُ
ثَمَراً
O
planter
of
good,
you
will
reap
fruit
after
it,
يَا
زَارِعَ
الشَّرِّ
مَوْقُوفٌ
عَلَى
الوَهَنِ
O
planter
of
evil,
you
are
bound
to
weakness.
يا
نَفْسُ
كُفِّي
عَنِ
العِصْيانِ
Oh
soul,
refrain
from
disobedience,
واكْتَسِبِي
فِعْلاً
جميلاً
لَعَلَّ
اللهَ
يَرحَمُني
And
earn
a
beautiful
deed,
perhaps
God
will
have
mercy
on
me.
يَا
نَفْسُ
وَيْحَكِ
تُوبي
واعمَلِي
حَسَناً
Oh
soul,
woe
to
you,
repent
and
do
good,
عَسى
تُجازَيْنَ
بَعْدَ
الموتِ
بِالحَسَنِ
Perhaps
you
will
be
rewarded
after
death
with
goodness.
ثم
الصلاةُ
على
الْمُختارِ
سَيِّدِنا
Then
prayers
upon
the
Chosen
One,
our
Master,
مَا
وَضَّأ
البَرْقُ
في
شَّامٍ
وفي
يَمَنِ
As
long
as
lightning
flashes
in
Syria
and
Yemen.
والحمد
لله
ممسينا
ومصبحنا
بالخير
والعطف
والإحسان
والمنن
And
praise
be
to
God,
who
sustains
us
evening
and
morning,
with
goodness,
kindness,
beneficence,
and
blessings.
